Vu+ Solo 4K in North America (California)

Google "tbs 5925 enigma2". You will find a North American site in that search which will have more detailed information. I use the 5925 for blindscanning, 16APSK feeds, and as a extra tuner. You may use the tbs 5925 to do blindscans and build a satellites.xml file.

ATSC support was recently added, and Sundtek also has an ATSC solution for us. Google search "ATSC enigma2" for more information.
Wow!

I had no idea that this was such a powerful, flexible box!! More stuff for me to learn!

Thanx!!

Hmm not sure why mine is not working, and another thing I notice is the tuner on the 4k solo seems to be WEAK? that is the dual turner that came with it.

Looking for a better dual tuner then what came with the VU 4k, anyone know where I can find one at? The factory one is weak and cheap. I need something better.

I have a link box 8000 HD and the on the same TP's the signal strength is much better with the link box then with the Vu 4k tuner..

The link box 8000 HD is an Ali receiver. These receivers may have signal strength numbers that are not realistic. This is done on purpose so the end user thinks the box performs better than it really does.

Let's try this a different way. What satellites/transponders/channels does the link box 8000 HD get that the Vu+ 4K cannot get?

One more thing I've learned over the last couple of years is that I can offload the recordings from the Vu+ hard disk onto my Windows computer over my home network!

I was trying to get a drive attached to my WiFi router to be recognized as a NAS disk. In the process of searching for it, I found the Vu+Solo4K disk was available, and I could see the video files on it! I can play them back on my computer directly off of the Vu+ disk over the network, or copy (or move) them to the computer for playback or editing!

This means that I don't have to detach the Linux formatted disk from the Vu+ and mess around with drivers to be able to read the contents of the disk! Really sweet!!!

I'm so happy with the Vu+ that I just ordered a second unit for another C/Ku dish at my house! I'll be able to compare the original firmware directly with the Black Hole firmware I'm currently using.

HI, everybody!

I've had a couple of problems since I installed the latest (a couple weeks ago) Black Hole update on my original Vu+Solo 4K. The first has to do with the clock. It seems that Pacific timezone is off by an hour (one hour later than it should be) This happened coincidentally at the beginning of Daylight Savings, which complicates things. I did check other time zones, and the ones I checked seemed to be right, I think, so there seems to be something funny with how Pacific time is calculated. I also checked to see how my other Vu+ Solo 4K with the factory software works, and it's time seems to be ok.

Is there a file that has the time zone configuration in it that I could edit if necessary? Maybe the Daylight Savings time change date is wrong in the file?

The other issue regards the DVR. Having had to reset everything when I did the software update, I had to recreate my DVR timers. Now, while recordings are made, it seems that they are being overwritten by the next day's recording. I've been using a Seagate 5TB external drive for a year or more with no problems. While trying to diagnose this issue, I tried it on my other factory software unit, and got a message that said it couldn't record on USB. Even after reformatting the drive it still wouldn't record, so I bought another disc and formatted it, with no luck. It does, however work on the Black Hole unit, but newer recordings overwrite older ones.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour on their Solo 4K? Any solutions? I had no problems like this until updating the firmware. If I don't find a solution, I'll probably try loading the previous Black Hole version (as long as it lets me go backwards with an older version!)

I appreciate any help that can be provided!

Thanx!!

About the 1st issue: BH has got NO real time sync. OBH 4.1, instead, has got a NTP sync command.
About the 2nd issue: it's a know problem introduced by the last versions, that seemed to be solved but it seems is live again...
Even about it, OBH is not affected.

Hi alex! Thanx for replying so quickly! BH must be Black Hole, right? OBH is what? Original Black Hole? Old Black Hole?

I get the time signal from 103W Ku service 2 (NHK). It’s just showing the wrong time for Pacific DST.

So for now I should maybe go back to the BH version I had before I updated Since it seemed to work ok for my needs?

Thanx again!!!

Open BlackHole is a better choice for North America. The layout of the two images is similar. Try it and see.
Sounds good!

I'll try it as soon as I have a bit of downtime.

Just for completeness...Has anyone gone back to the original (or a later version) factory software successfully?

Thanx!
