Hi
I have a WD 2Tb hdd in order to use for recording i created an ext3 partition (logical) using Easeus partition master and attached it to rear usb port of my vu solo .
1-it detects hdd but it is not in mount points of device manager (i use BH image 1.6.2 final in receiver flash) so i can not mount it .
2- in Menu>Setup>System>Harddisk i can see it as WD mybook 1130 2000.35 Gb but when i try to initialize it i get the error "Mkfs failed".
would you please help to make solo recognize the hdd .

Maybe try to format it with VU+ Control Centre,

http://www.vuplus-community.net/board/attachments/toolbox-vu_-1-0-zip.1761/

or use telnet commands.

thx rurs i tried that but no success . i think it is a matter of hdd size and partition size .
I suppose BH does not support hdds bigger than 1TB and there should be just one partition if there is
2 or more partition it just shows the first one .

any idea am i right ? if it is like that please clarify since i have tried a lot of ways to solve the issue with no results.

I think there are two possible issues here.

One is that these new large drives use AFT to map 4k sectors to 512bytes for compatibilty with all OSes.

The other is that there seems to be an issue with the controller chip which translates SATA to USB.

If you have a Windows 7 machine, try mounting the disk on the PC and then deleting all the partitions.

Create a new partition. Windows 7 aligns the partition correctly, and then you can try to format it via Vu+ or with VuCC. If you don't have Windows 7, there may be software available from WD to align the partitions on XP or Vista.

If this doesn't work, you might need to research further on removing the drive from the enclosure and connecting it directly to a SATA interface and do the partition creation and formatting, maybe with a Linux Live CD. There's one available which is basically a GParted dedicated OS.

Boh!Mi arrendo
