Vu+ Duo and A867: issues

DS-1

Hi guys,

I've bought a used Vu Duo to use it mainly as a dvb-t decoder. I'm using it with a A867 dvb-t usb tuner. I'm using BH 3.0.5 as image, but I've tried the Duo with other images, also.

I've got this problem: randomly, after X minutes of using, the image loops, or sometimes it freezes or it goes to black screen and sometimes "SID not found in PAT" appears on screen.

I've tried the A867 in the back usb panel straight, thru powered and non powered hub, on the front usb, but the result is always the same.

I have to say that I have another (older) Vu Duo that is working with the identical hub and dvb-t usb tuner with no issues at all.

Any idea of what is happening?

I know Duo is an old decoder, but I was happy with the other one I have, so I decided to buy another one!

Thanks in advance for the reply!

Hubs are often cause of problems, even if in the other VU+ you don't have issues. They are not just divisors of USB ports, but they have their microchips to manage the devices connected. So, I'd try without hub what happens to be sure you can exclude its responsibility.

Tried straight to the back ports, also tried with the front port, but the result was the same.

I do not know if it can help you, long ago I had attached to the USB port on the back of the vu + duo a mini 5-port USB hub powered (I was born the need because I had to connect a DDT tuner, a pen drive for universes parallel, a pen drive with recorded movies, another with photos and a fourth with music) and but I had not noticed any problems, but it did not last long because
then I mounted an internal HDD I removed the mini-hub.

Thanks, I'll try with a powered hub, even if I believe that there's a hw issue on my vu duo.

I had assumed that the hub, for such an important job, was powered!!! How do you think hubs work? Not only they don't multiply the ports but they DIVIDE them (so, is like having only one pipe with many taps), but you want them to divide also the about 500mV available on each port??? For a tuner?
Said that just for academic reasons, if these tuners don't work directly connected to the USB ports of the VU+, theoretically they couldn't work by a powered hub, unless... the VU+ or an image has some problems in managing them.
I had a Mac where was installed also windows where the same device which perfectly worked in a port under OsX simply didn't work on the same computer and the same port if I launched Windows (XP, at the time) because XP was very well known for having issues in managing the USB ports energy ;)

It is without any doubt a hw issue. I have another Vu Duo with and the same tuner works like a charm there.

I've done an accurate difference check between the working vu duo and the "defective" one. I've discovered that the first always had more than 20mb of free ram, instead the second one (with just one plugin more that the first vu) had 12-13mb of free ram.

So I've downgraded a cam plugin I use to an older release, removed all the unused plugins and removed the usb pen I used for picons, epg and swap (in the first vu duo I use a CF card, that I can't use on the second vu because the hub hasn't a cf port): more than 25mb of free ram.

After these "mods", the second vu didn't show anymore any kind of issue about signal or sid/pat error.

I don't know why this happened, maybe the second vu has some problem with ram chips, I dunno...but in this way I've solved my issue (for now).
