Dear all,
I open this new topic to ask you how to install OBH 4.2 translation in italian language downloaded from the following post:

https://www.vuplus-community.net/board/threads/obh-locale-it-it.27907/

If I press in my remote controller "green" and "yellow" button I find a menu with either the possibility to install pre-compiled packages or manual install (loading the files via FTP to /tmp).
I browsed the pre-compiled packages list but I don't find italian package.
On the contrary, the files dowloaded from the post #18 of the above link are two and I don't want to install the wrong file with manual install.

Regards
Roberto

If you have 4.2.019 on your STB it will be updated, so you might do nothing!

Press <GREEN>, followed of <YELLOW> on your RCU and then " Open Black Hole online update ".

There many ways to update an image. It's important to explore all the menus in order to get acquainted to your image.
For instance, another way is (for the Italian GUI)
Menu/Impostazioni/Aggiorna Immagine

Dear Alex,
I agree with your point of view (I explored all the menu before posting) but, maybe and in order to let you understand my request better, we should start from a definifinition.

For me the definition of "update" is the "update of something is already existing inside the image" so my difficult was to understand how I can update Italian language if actually only default english and german language are inside my image: thats all.

In conclusion, from what you tell me, I understand that I'll find the italian language in the languages list after image update. Correct?

So, you don't need an update, you need to set your GUI in Italian because, if I understand well, at the moment your system is in English, right?
I suspect there is something wrong: all the languages are available (unless you chose to delete it immediately after the installing, when the image ask you if you intend to do that):
Menu/Impostazioni/Interfaccia utente/GUI/Lingua

If you don't have other languages other than English and German it means you deleted them. So, the only chance is to reflash your image and be aware to the question I said before. Weren't you prompted, immediately after the first booting, during the initial wizard, to choose your language?

I've downloaded the image from the following post and flashed as usually:

http://www.vuplus-community.net/board/threads/openbh-4-2-vu-uno.37946/

After the flash and the booting, the "guided configuration" prompted me to select language but only english (UK, USA, etc) and German were present: no other language.

I can try anothertime to flash but If there is a stand-alone italian package installer I should prefer. Othewise I'll wait OBH 4.3 to flash.

Ciao

In telnet type:

Code:
opkg install enigma2-locale-it

Press enter and it should download the Italian language for you.

4.3? We don't know when it will be available! Do what Ev0 said: I didn't know about this procedure because it has NEVER happened to me not to have every languages in the image.

It is the first time I install OBH in my Vu+Uno. In the last days, before installing OBH, I've read in this forum (sorry but I don't find the post anymore) that only english and german were supported but, maybe, this was an old post.
I'll do as per Ev0 suggestion.

Ah, OK, I think I remember something now about a specific issue for some old models. Otherwise, every languages are normally included in the installation. But, what update of the 4.2 are you now at?

The one downloaded from this post:

http://www.vuplus-community.net/board/threads/openbh-4-2-vu-uno.37946/

I've never done online update after the flashing because the flash is at 90% and, before flashing OBH, I faced many problems updating the image on my vu+uno (green screen).
Now obh works very well but I think my vu+uno will going to die in few months so I not prefer to do other big changes to let this stable situation: meanwhile I' m looking for an used Vu+4K model.

No, not doing updates is wrong for two reasons: one because it won't add anything, of course, otherwise we all would be in troubles, don't you think? An update replaces the files with the updated ones.
The second is that you'll loose many bug fixes, the exact reason why an update exists. If the image was perfect, there would be no updates.

I agree with your philosophy of updating to newer version but in computer science field there are many opinions about it.
There are people thinking is the best always having the last software update. On the contrary other people think is better to update a software only if you have big troubles.
My approach , based on 22 years experience as "amateur" using computers, is intermediate between the two above as follows:

If the computer is new is the best choice having always the last updates but, if the computer is old (hardware obsolete), the better approach in my opinion is to update only the software related to cyber security and other only if you have a problem.
Moreover my experience is that a software update, even if replace an older version, progressively reduce available space because every software has a "natural<2 evolution (eg.adding of more features) that in 99% of the cases leads to size increasing.

In the specific, returning to the topic, I did some try reflashing OBH 4.2 to my Vu+Uno and I can confirm that the first version of OBH 4.2 downloaded from the link in post #11 does not contain italian language pack but, with the suggestion of Ev0 in post #7, I have installed it successfully!

Bye
