Vu+ Zero on BH 3.0.8 + Tenda W311MI problem [RTL8188GU]

Hi All,

After some research I've purchased Tenda W311MI wifi adapter (based on Rt5370 chip).
When I plug it into my Zero receiver I get no option available under System for WLan setup.
Does it mean the BH OS doesn't recognise my wifi adapter at all?
I thought this doesn't need any extra steps...

I've tried both usb ports and several reboots - no joy.

Could anyone help me please?

Further research revealed that my newly purchased Tenda wifi adapter is based on Realtek RTL8188GU chip.
Looking at the above I can simply put it in a bin...

Taken that there is really no drivers (something I'm not sure of) this is because you are using a linux system: before buying any HW, you MUST search in advance if there are linux drivers for it. And, still, this does not mean that you'll have 100% the drivers for VU+ images, that are based on linux but they are not linux; even because there is no Linux, but many distributions of it.
So, even under linux, you might have the drivers for Red Hat and not for Ubuntu, for example.
That said, let's see if @angelofsky1980 or other drivers' specialists confirm if your device is not yet supported. If so, maybe it can be supported in the future.

I agree 100% with your post. I thought I've done my research and only after the bloody thing landed in my hands I've noticed that small mark v3 on it and I knew straight away

There is a chance it would work but I'm getting md5sum error when trying to install diver package compiled by @angelofsky1980 . In this situation I have no choice but to buy a cheap, generic adapter based on RT5370 chip.

I was considering going to an earlier BH image or even Open Black Hole but after reviewing their dedicated forum I don't think it's worth the effort that's needed to get this working (if possible at all).

I need a very important info: what hardware revision is your wifi device?

There are three hardware versions avaiable on market:
- v1 (or no version wrote): Ralink RT5370
- v2: Mediatek MT7601U
- v3: Realtek RTL8188GU

Great info @termostat I'll check if we can support that chipset.

UPDATE: there are two drivers that seems supports the same chipset: rtl8192cu and r8712u.
I'll check sources for both ...
