First time setting up a VU+

Vu+ Newbie
Hi everyone,

I currently have a Skybox M3 which was relatively easy to setup and load ccams etc.

A friend of mine however, has recently purchased a VU+ Solo2 and I offered to help set it up. After some research on this site it seems it's not as straight forward as my Skybox.

Can anyone just give me a brief bullet list of steps of what to do or a link to a guide? I keep hearing this Blackhole firmware everywhere.

The Solo2 will be in a vanilla state and I will be installing a 2.5" HDD.

Some of the requirements my friend is expecting:
  • An easy GUI for browsing channels similar to Sky's HD box.
  • A good EPG for scheduled recording.
  • The ability to play PPV.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.

Don't talk about softcams here, it will get you banned.

But flashing the Solo 2 is quite easy. Also the GUI is superfast and superstable.
To flash the box:
- Download the Black Hole image for Solo 2
- Unpack the folder to a FAT32 formatted USB stick
- Turn off the Solo 2 and unplug all USB devices for it.
- Put the USB stick in, in the front port.
- Turn the box on and the display should say "Update!"
- Press the touch-sensitive button on the front, to start the update.
- Wait..
- You can unplug the USB stick when the display says "Rebootin in x seconds.."
Also remember to install the latest drivers. Download them here: http://archive.vuplus.com/download/drivers/vuplus-dvb-modules-vusolo2-3.3.6-4.4.3-20130125.tar.gz
Unpack the files, then FTP them to /lib/modules/3.3.6-1.2/extra. Remeber to backup previous drivers.

You can use the included EPG or install another one, such as Cool TV Guide.
