duo red light stuck on starting

Hi guys quick question placed latest duo BH image 2.1.1 onto friends duo it went well... Everything working correctly... He contacted me after he had been watching it a few hours to say it had hung ... Rebooted and hung on starting and red light (is this the red light of death)... I went round reflashed with image all went smoothly programmed erased flash and cycled through the usual... Rebooted and it hung in exactly same place at starting... His box did feel a little warm but did sound like it was firing up but same again.... Any suggestions? Or is it the red light of death and needs the required components as described in hardware section?

I don't think you'd be able to flash the receiver if it were the red light problem, as I think the thread is entitled Dead Duo, or similar.
Have you checked if the VU+ Duo is genuine, and not a clone?
Have you tried loading an earlier image?
What image did it have loaded previously?
Can you please provide more information on how far the flashing process gets, and at what point it stops.

Hi Mick I'm not a Noob at flashing the old vu's mate ;) its genuine box the flashing process completes its after rebooting its sticking on starting... Tried new image fresh again and previous image even tries reflashing boot loader.... I was a bit pressed for time as I'm on graveyard shift tonight just wondering if anyone's got suggestions as to what to look for next time I'm off... I thought the red light thing may have killed it but as I said it flashed correctly various BH images on my faithful USB drive which I've done a million times before... He said it froze as he was watching and then rebooted it... I've told him to try in a couple of hours to make sure it wasn't just a temperature thing and recommended he gave the old girl a bit more breathing space. Just wondering if there was anything to try next

Does it have an internal hard drive fitted? You could try disconnecting that, and any attached devices.
I would also have the user check the Black Hole system Information, on the new image just press Blue, followed by Yellow, to see what the receiver is doing.
I always put blocks, under each corner, to allow airflow underneath, my receivers.
If it is a temperature problem I'd first check the internal fan, but you can also by a cheap fan, designed to fit under a receiver.

My next port of call was to strip it out and put original vu image on and test to see if it is a hardware issue .... I'll have to wait til days off now... As long as its not the red light of death issue .... Just wondering if any one else has experienced this issue before.... I've had a few hangs but its always cleared after a reboot

Can you please expand on starting? Does it say VU+, starting GUI, or can you just hear the fans ans see the red light?
Is this after the image has completely loaded?
In your earlier posts I think you had it running, for some hours, then it shut off, did this happen again or did it just not work?

It hangs on red light with the word "starting" on display... This is now with everything removed ...no HDD no USB no Ethernet cable.... No fan running.... Freshly flashed with latest boot loader latest vu plus image... Same as described so im taking its not software its gotta be a hardware issue that's why I've uploaded the result above as described in another post in the hardware section.

Have you tried pressing the menu button?
Does it hang after the image flashing process has completed, and it re-boots?
Have you tried disconnecting the coax F Connector, just in case this is the problem?

just wondering if anyone can decipher my issue please?

Seems there is a problem during boot up of your box and the box has problems during load of Vu+ drivers.
Try a BH 2.1.0 image to verify if all works properly. This is needed because kernel versions are older in the 2.1.0 image.

I shall try version 2.1.0 again buddy shall I post results again if telnet is available? @Mick12334 what will pressing menu button achieve m8? I have no output to my TV source through HDMI as its not booting up? Would it be advisable to try connecting it up via scart? All connections are removed except HDMI ATM

Sorry, when you said it stopped during the start up screen, I thought you meant the television GUI screen, which has happened to me, but obviously yours isn't even getting to this point.
I also thought the receiver was working, normally, early on, but shut down, after a few hours, which could indicate over-heating, or intermittent hardware problem, due to a failing part.
I am still a little confused as to how far the receiver is getting through the booting up process.

Well if you first switch on your duo of the toggle switch on back you will see the word starting on the front of the duo with a little red light bud like normal.... Then nothing ... It just stops on that stage.... I'll go with @angelofsky1980 advice as he's the guru :) ... I've flashed many a vu including duo, solo2 and duo2 and never come across this before. :lamo: ... I'll post my results later with BH 2.1.0 thanks for replies guys

BH Lover
Try with an old official image (released on the same period of BH 2.1.0) but I think there is an hardware problem and there is nothing to do.
Is there anyway to identity what could possibly be wrong my friend? I've opened the old girl up when removing the hard drive and can't really find anything toasted? I think it may have to be sent away then ... I'll try last resort of official image around BH 2.1.0 as suggested.... I was thinking it was hardware related and some things popped on the board somewhere but I have no testing equipment and limited electronics experience so prob best left to the experts.:) thanks for reply

Please keep us updated.

I think you need to return the receiver, unless you have a friend with a circuit board tester.
It will probably be replaced and the receiver returned for some new parts.
