Why is image quality much better in 1080p mode than in 4k mode?

Hello!
I have a 4k curved tv (Hisense xt55810) with vu+ solo 4k connected to hdmi 2.0, latest black hole image and I'm very satisfied with both of them. However I noticed that when I switch to 1080p mode the image quality is sharper and looks better than 2160p mode, even on the few 4k channels. Is that normal or is there anything wrong with my devices?
Thanks
Stefano

On my Samsung UHD TV is not so.
I have a relatively inexpensive Samsung for testing.

2160p mode is perfect , What I can not say for 1080p .
1080p is not bad but on my older Samsung HD is better.

Check good TV setup and scharpnes control
on TV so the receiver.
Find the optimal setup.
I use on the receiver maximum scharpnes , and the TV is minimal.
Turn off all filters on TV.

Of course I do not know if it all goes for your TV.

2160p mode must be perfect.

Within the image you have a test picture use to set the best picture and contrast e.t.c

Hi!
Thanks for your reply. I've tried every possible tv setup but nothing changes. I also have nvidia shield tv to watch netflix at 4k resolution and the pictures look stunning at 1080p, not so perfect in 4k mode. As far as youtube on my shield is concerned I must change the resolution to 4k in order to watch 2160p files and in this case I can see the difference. I'm gonna do some tests on my brother's tv, a Sony 4k tv.
Thank you again

Hi! Thanks for your reply. In the meantime i've replaced my relatively old hisense with the newest Samsung j9000 model and I'm surprised to notice that, although 2160p mode looks amazing here and better than hisense, 1080p mode is still a winner with this receiver. Same thing as with nvidia shield android tv, the only remarkably noticeable difference between 2160p and 1080p mode is when watching 4k youtube videos. Am I as so unlucky as I cannot buy a decent tv set?
If you have some suggestions please help

Well if it's the same with the nvidia shield, then it's not a solo4k problem is it ;)

Maybe ask Samsung why 1080p is better than 2160p

Hello this is what you do, in setting in BH turn off auto and set to 60 mhz(refresh rate) next take your sharpness turn it all the way up, and change your color to RBG and reboot your receiver that should fix your problem.

Hi Need2learn! I read your post, tried what you said, no better image. And now it seems I'm not the only one here.
Thanks anyway

On my Samsung

I have put the receiver sharpness at maximum or zero/ off(zero is also maximum).
Put the TV sharpness to minimum and turn off all filters in your TV.

same problem on my samsung uhd tv 7 series 65", my tv doesn't performe upscaling on 4k mode, at 1080p upscaling from SD to UHD and HD to UHD is great, but at 2160p SD to UHD and HD to UHD upscaling doesn't work, so 2160p is made to watch just 4k contents and not HD or SD ones. making receiver sharpness to max with large screen 65" or higher makes the picture quality very poor.

it should be released a new version of autoresolution app that selects automatically 2160p resolution on 4K channels only. I think this is the only solution.

and this problem is not remarkable on small tv like 32" to 50".... I can see the problem on my 65" tv.

Strange picture quality of even 4k channels on satellite is much better with 1080p resolution selected than 2160p on Vu Uno 4k. My tv is 55X8500B Sony 4k. Serious issue which needs to be fixed. Only YouTube gives good results with 4k resolution.

you have lucky that you have 2160P res on your tv.

i have philips 40pus6809 that support 4k but not 2160P for me....it's out of sync when i put 2160p.
