Vu+ Uno4k SE & UHD 4K MKV playback

Hi All,
Over years I had multiple Vu+ receivers and all were more or less serious multimedia beasts - playing back every format through native or plugin based player!

Couple months ago I had a good opportunity and got a nice 4K 55" TV and even though my Duo2 was (and still is) performing excellent I decided to go and try one of the latest Vu+ 4K receivers...
I knew in advance that selection of UHD content on Hotbird 13E is very limited hence my main target was to test its media playback capabilities - UHD MKV files especially with hopefully better PQ and Audio too.

At the beginning I have to say that initial setup was that bit more complicated due to CPU being an ARM type unit (all plugins I was interested in had to be written specifically for ARM architecture - any plugins marked with "all" as compatible with MIPS and ARM were simply failing during installation).

Once I finally got all or nearly all plugins installed there came the biggest disappointment - it is completely unreliable when it comes to playback of MKV UHD files... In my test the only UHD files I could play reliably were the recordings created by the receiver itself ;) - I have to admit there was not that many tested but after trying few I simply said it's not up to my expectations to have sound only and no video on 3 MKV files out of 5 tested!

I don't know if it is still in early days or if it even can be resolved through software. As per now and comparing directly PQ of HD channels from DUO2 and UNO4KSE I can't see any difference on 55" UHD TV (or DUO2 might be slightly ahead still!).

I'm very interested what are your, Cuplus-Community Colleagues' feelings and findings from using your Vu+ 4K receivers?

Regards,
T

P.S.
It is bloody fast :)

As you noticed, Vu4k boxes are not good media players. You would expect that new models "crush" Duo2 for example, but it is far from so.

I think this wont change unless Vu+ uses different chipsets for their new boxes in the future.

Coming Satellite signals, like hot bird and others the 4K, UHD , and HD are almost the same pictures as showing on my Uno4k to my Sony 4K.
But from IPTV streaming 4k pictures,,,is perfect.

I think internet (fiber Optic) signals are more pure than from Satellite signals with dsuration from around/and the weather.

Most TV providers are using streaming now.

Based on experience, PQ and no MKV playback possible I decided to sell on my newly purchased Vu+ Uno 4k SE and stay with good, old Duo2.

I really like the speed of Uno4k Se - it is a beast! Unfortunately speed is not everything...

What am I going to look for now - I don't know. I think latest DM920 UHD has different chipset but it is expensive way to test things out.

I'm surprised there is not more people complaining about multimedia capabilities of the new Vu+ 4k family.

What are you saying??? I always play 4K files and MKV DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING: video files are not PDFs, docs or the like. What matters in video files is the codec by whom they have been created.
What image do you have installed?
BH used to be more limited than OBH because it didn't have ServiceApp and Exteplayer3. But now it also has this chance. So, try and install this plugin and then set it to use Exteplayer3 instead of the default player.
If you still have issues, you can try also OBH as a comparison, in case installing it in multiboot.
And, finally, you can recode your files by Handbrake to do other test but your apocalyptic and absolute statements are absurd. I've had only very, very occasionally troubles with any files, 4K or not.

I have a Vu+ Uno4Kse with Blackhole 3.0.9.I and it plays .mkv files with no problem.

And there is no diffrence anymore between BH and other images, accully i prefer BH nowdays
Its just my personal opinion :)

But there is no problem with playback of mkv conatiner as long as they are correct created.

Box gone and happy me to get my money back!
I'm glad it works for you Guys otherwise we'd be all moaning and crying here ;)
I'll get back to it when 4K content is available but until then I can't see any point.
All the best.

4k is only useful when watching uhd playback (sometimes)
with ordinary channels like itv bbc in hd an ordinary led television will show a better picture
it would seem to me UHD is not what its cracked up to be why because itv bbc and the rest dont broadcast UHD and they might never except online
by the way my uhd 4 k tv is a sony bravia android 49 inch kd-49xe80
the sony bravia 43 inch is a better picture kd-43xe70
the uno4kse has problems with some usb uhd files on playback
