Picons on Solo2

Tried the file you sent, thanks.
I changed permissions to 777 but wasn't sure what you meant by "and ask for a channel from that satellite"
Anyway, that didn't work either.
Something strange is going on.
1. when I originally used the skin from BH 3.0.9L after a reflash I could get picons from a addon download but now I cant.
2. I cant see any new skins I download even though it tells me its installed.
3. I keep getting green screens of death with a software error message and the receiver re-boots or I have to re-flash.

Do you think a factory default might help?

"Request a channel from this satellite" in this case was to tune a channel to Hotbird ... we are in different languages, it's complicated ...
I think there is a difference in how we get picons ... I don't use anything on my receivers, like an addon that gets picons, it's all put to the nail (an expression here). It is not possible that this packet of picons does not work on a clean BH image, as long as they are inserted in the right place, a pen mounted on the receiver, the pen is with the picon paste and placed the picons I sent. Re-pop the new box, this time just put the channel list and set the tuner for Hotbird, tune in an FTA channel and you'll see its picon appear. It's just that it can't stop happening ... then you see what's wrong. Again, the disc may not have anything related to picons ...

FAT32??? I'm not sure this is the problem, but why on earth one should use such a limited file system like FAT32 when you can format it as extfs4? Use the image itself to do that.

Some time ago I had the picons in SPR, decides to switch to SPN ... here a same channel may have come from operator A, B, C, D and, in two of these, may be on two different platforms ...
If the pen was on extfs4 the change had to be made using the receiver. As it is not, went to take the pen and connect this to the PC. Much faster, I guess ... I don't know what the problem with @zdster4 is, but, as you say, it's not for that matter.

Ok I did what you said. I had to re-flash the receiver after the software error message. I re loaded BH 3.0.9L and kept the original skin, formatted a USB drive to FAT32 and mounted it. ! can see the pen drive using filezila and I know its my pen drive as it has another directory on there called "system volume information"
I copied over the picon files to the directory called "Picon" (without the " ")and this didn't work. I then deleted all the files in the picon directory and downloaded a picon package using the addon manger. This repopulated the picon directory with files but still they wont display in the info bar. Im not sure what else we an do apart from live without picons which isn't the end of the world but Im annoyed its beaten me.

"Picon" is different from "picon" ....

The trace root must be:

Code:
/media/usb/picon

or

/media/hdd/picon

or

/media/net/picon

or

/usr/share/enigma2/picon

best regards
nunigaia

Please note: The capital letter "P" in the word PICON ... must be your issue .... because the folder ... is allways <picon>.

Hi, guys,

Thanks for your help and advice. Just to clarify a had written it as picon, without a capital P. I really think theres a hardware issue with my receiver as I keep getting a green screen of death as mentioned earlier. I went to record a channel tonight and as soon as I hit the record button a software error accrued and the system re-booted and I had to load all my channels again. Also the fact that I can't see any loaded new skins, only the default is visible in the setup menu after installing makes me think theres a major problem.
It will be a real pain if I need to buy a new receiver as I ideally need one with a SCART as I use a video sender to send the picture to another room and the sender only has SCART. All new VU boxes have HDMI only :wallbash:

With an HDMI Hub and an HDMI to scart adapter you solve the problem.

But first of all, it changes image ... try with OBH. Turn off the disk before placing the OBH, do not target any addon beyond what the image has, format the pen and put the picons I sent, set the tuner and put a Hotbird FTA channel.

Ok, I tried that but it didn't work either

Right, this may throw a bit of light on the problem. I've noticed that I have picons showing in the info bar for 19E but no other satellite even though I've unmounted the USB pen and filezila is showing /media/usb as empty. I have checked all the other directories that nunigaia pointed too and they are all empty. I searched using filezila for any directories called picon and the result was zero. So the question is, where is the software picking the picons for 19E from? Is there a way to completely clean the receiver and start all over again?

STOP THE PRESS. I just found a directory, sorry finger trouble with filzila, theres a picon directory in /autofs/sdb 1 Should this be there or is this causing the problem as the software is mapped to read this directory instead of /media/usb? Should I delete it?

Oh, I just noticed its the same file size and quantity as the file for sent me for 13E p.rodrigues and i cant get picons on 13E so it still begs the questions where are the picons for 19E coming from?

Delete from there and copy it to /media/usb/picon and see what happens. Have you formatted it as extfs4?
After moving it, copy manually other picons in there.

Thank, Alex. I will delete that directory and put them in /media/usb/picon. I formated as FAT32 as suggested earlier in the thread. If I want to format as extfs4 will the receiver do that for me?

Not to worry.I found the format menu

Ok, the situation now. The directory /autofs/ is now empty. I didn't have to do anything here, it just disappeared. I've lost the picons for 19E as well without doing anything. There were showing just before I tried this latest test.
Anyway, I formatted the pen drive to extfs4 using the receivers own formatting procedure and set 1 partition and remounted the drive. Filzila shows another directory in media/usb called "Lost + Found" I deleted that. I made a new directory called picon and then manually copied the picon files into /media/usb/picon and tried several channels on 13E but still no picons show in the info bar

Question. in the "about page" under information, should I see the USB drive as well as the hard drive, I only see the hard drive as being detected. The usb is mounted as /media\usb?

I had told you in post#18 that the image has got the format menu.
The directory Lost + Found is a system directory!!! This is the terrible result of using that sort of O.S. called windows: fortunately, it is not the only O.S. in the world and surely is the worst.
Anyway, the system will probably rebuild it by itself, I hope.

Last question: are you sure the 13E picons you put in the folder are updated? Many from the addons server are from 2008...
Search the internet for more updated picons.
You don't have "to try" several picons: use the advanced list and choose 13E as a satellite: there you have ALL your channels.

Hi, Alex, The picons were given to me in post#17 so I'm assuming they are correct. I will go back to the beginning again and re-flash, reformat the pen drive and leave the lost + found directory in place and everything else as standard and see what happens.

Well, that didn't work either :wallbash:

Wait, I just notice something really strange. My 19E picons have just reappeared and I haven't loaded any :wallbash:
I will go through the procedure once more to test a theory

Yesssss, we got there! :yahoo:
First of all. Assumption is the mother of all F* ups. The file that was sent to me in post#17 was in fact for 19E and not 13E, but I thank the sender anyway:thanks:
Second. Even though you can remove the pen drive any picons that were on the drive must have been copied to memory and only a power off will remove them. Thats why I couldn't understand why I kept seeing 19E picons when I though I should be seeing 13E only:wallbash:
I've loaded working picons for both 19E and 13E and all is good:D
I will update the skin now and hopefully things should go to plan.

Thanks guys for all you help and time spent replying to me it was much appreciated :victory:

Glad you resolved ... the picons I sent in # 17 are from Hotbird .... I confirmed, because I could have changed, but no.

I found that if you can see picons in info list and then remove the pen the picons will still work. The only was to clear them is power off main supply. That was my experience.

Anway, all working now :D

Thanks again for help :victory:

I have one last question, and is not anything to do picons:laugh: I search but can't find answer. What the difference between BH and OBH, why do some people want to use OBH?

A one million dollar question. The technical difference is that BH is based on vuplus original code; OBH, as the other images whose name begins with "Open", is an open project, based on a different core (OE-A core).
The differences between the two operative system are many and you can find them reading many posts in this same forum, if you search ;)
