VU+ Uno 4K SE - 2 questions: DRAM + .avi playback

Hello!
I am looking to buy a new VU+ Uno 4K SE tuner, but I have 2 questions I would like answered before I go ahead:

1. DRAM
In the review of the tuner on this board, the tuner is listed with 2GB DDR4 DRAM in the specs.
http://www.vuplus-community.net/board/threads/vu-uno-4k-se-tested-for-you.35352/

This is also the case on the official website of VU+. http://vuplus.com/sub/sub0117.php

However, on 2 different reseller websites in my country, the tuner is listed with 2GB (2048 MB) DDR3 DRAM.

http://www.x-sat.no/vu-uno-4k-se-uhd/1738-vu-uno-4k-se.html
https://www.dreambox.no/produkt/hduhd-mottakere/vu/vu-hduhd-tunere/vu-uno-4k-se-fbc-twin

The DRAM specs are listed under 'Tekniske høydepunkter' ('Technical highlights') and 'Teknisk' ('Technical')

So, my first question is: did this tuner come in different editions with 2 different kinds of DRAM, or have the resellers in my country independently made typo's in their specs?

2. avi files
One of the reasons for wanting to buy this tuner, is because my current VU+ Zero 4K does not support playback of .avi video. It will only play the audio, but not the video.

I have sought answers to this problem on this board, as well as researched different forums to find a solution, however, it is my conclusion that there is no solution to this.

The problem seems to be a limitation in the Broadcom chip in the VU+ Zero 4K, which does not support .avi video, and since it is a hardware limitation, it will not be possible to make a software work-around for this issue.

It seems to me only the Zero 4K has this limitation, at least I have not seen anyone complaining about any other VU+ models having this issue. Also, this issue seems to be regardless of what image you use on the Zero 4K.

My second question therefore is: can the VU+ UNO 4K SE (100% positively) play .avi files?

Any and all help is highly appreciated.
Ty.

Avi is just a container. But in most cases it is xvid/divx inside, so you are out of luck. All Vu+ 4k boxes behave the same.

Thank you for your answer!

Seems I’m out of luck then, but great to have this cleared up.
I will have to revert to other means for my streaming needs.

Uno 4K SE use DDR4.

Code:

It looks like AVI files will have to be converted to MP4 in order to play on Vu+....

Hi,
I have VU UNO4KSE and VU ZERO4K receivers.
Both are fitted with the last BH corresponding to the types.
Question:
Why does VU ZERO4K not show AVI files that VU UNO4KSE shows perfectly? How do I resolve this problem?

Get this question so many times, The Zero 4K is marked as an UltraHD Zapper
And this means that its intended use was to just watch TV from Satellite,Cable Or Streaming.
And it was the first to fully support MultiStream and HDR colors for UHD.

None of this function need any AVI containers like DivX or Xvid format
AVI is not in it self a Codec its a conatiner usally used by the above format.

No Satellite or Cable TV use thoose formats so when Vu+ created this little monster of a Streamer they put all it power into this
and left the unnessery stuff out.

But i can agree that this info should be better presented by those who sell this Reciver.
Its also one the best working when it comes to DLNA so for those of you using lots of .avi files and have a Zero4K
get your self a Nas disk with DLNA then this little power unit can stream over the DLNA Server from the Nas any format.
Or in your case setup the Uno4Kse as a DLNA server and you can stream all files from the Uno4Kse to the Zero 4K
And its for this purpouse it was made... To Stream :)

...and... not only AVI is only a container but it's surely the worst and less used one, nowadays.
Add all your obsolete avi files to a Handbrake's queue and go to sleep happy and free from this avi problem.

Hi, All!

Thank you to those who answered my question: Thomas67 and Alexwilmac!

But I 'll write in more detail. This question, about playing AVI files on VU ZERO 4K, arises over and over again because there is no clear technical answer WHY.

I understand what a “container” is. I understand what a “codec” is. I understand that we can transcode a file from one format to another. But this is not convenient for the user. I can cite a lot of cases where it is. I don 't agree that the format is outdated and low used. A lot of movies and personal videos are stored in this format. And you can play AVI with the most common codecs on many devices (probably even on a coffee machine :) ).

I will very much ask to answer people who know the answer to this question! WHY can 't I embed a VU ZERO receiver 4K at least the set of codecs that VU UNO 4K SE understands?

What resource is not enough? Both VU ZERO 4K VU UNO 4K SE have similar hardware resources:

UNO 4K SE Dual Core 1.7GHz 4GB eMMC 2GB DDR4

ZERO 4K Dual Core 1.5GHz 4GB eMMC 2GB DDR4

Both ultraHD 4K.

I will be very grateful for a thorough technical answer! And I undertake to disseminate the information received here in the special forums available to me. I will keep an indication of the author of the response!

I advise users when buying satellite equipment. And I have to understand what I 'm proposing. Many others need this information.

Sorry for my English!

But this has nothing to do with our images BH and OBH: this is just and only an HW limit of Zero 4K.
So the only who can answer your question or you should address your issue, is VU+ itself.
Unfortunately, no images may implement what's impossible to the HW.
It might also be that for each codec they implement, they have to pay some royalties (I don't know if this is actually the case, just a theory) and they wanted to keep the Zero4K price as lower as possible. BUt, again, it's up to VU+ to answer.

I gave yo the answer in my first reply.

The Zero 4K was not built for anything else then to be used as a Sat/Cable/Terrestial zapper so therefore Vu+ did not put the harware chip into this reciver to playback any other format then thoose used
over this transmissions. most common is the .ts or also called mpegts

There is no provider broadcasting in .avi format so therefore they instead put all the power into the format thats provided by the broadcasters.
This reciver was the first to fully support Full UltraHD not only by screen size but also have full support for the colors used by UHD (hdr)
It also for a longtime was the only reciver supporting "Multistreams" over Same broadcast system.
So the reciver was never intended to be nothing else but a streamer/zapper box.
Later you could also buy the PVR Kit for recordings even if you allredy could attach a external USB HDD and do this.

And i still have the opinion that .avi conatiners are on the way out and never have been the choice of streaming since the .avi conatiner is raw equals mega big files.
What people did whas to compress the .avi conatiner into first .divX and later the .Xvid come along.

Today most people compress their .avi files into .mkv or .mp4 they are both streaming codecs based on the mpeg standard that the Zero 4k handles good
