VU+ DUO 4K SE questions

Hi,

I'm new owner of VU+ DUO 4K SE BT Edition with 1x slot DVB-C tuner.

I also own Technisat Technistar K4 ISIO PVR device. It has some annoying bugs, but in general it is a very usable device, I like it.

I switched to VU+ DUO 4K SE in hope, that I will get more features and will be more flexible.

Unfortunately the user interface of VU+ DUO 4K SE seems to be very limited and difficult to use.

So I'm thinking about trying out some firmwares, which may have more user-friendly interface.

Currently installed firmware:
Device: VU+ DUO 4K SE BT Edition with 1x slot DVB-C tuner
Version: 2020-03-18-vuplus_experimental
Image: Experimental 2020-09-04

My questions:
1) How to backup current firmware (before I flash another firmware image)?

2) How to backup settings of the current firmware?

3) How to backup currently installed plugins?

4) How to backup settings of currently installed plugins?

5) Can I restore settings of a firmware or plugin in another firmware (or at least a part of it)?

Thanks,
Konrad

Of course: I (implicitly) answered your questions in your other thread:

I'm answering here, to avoid pollution of the other thread.

1) A 2,5" HDD (or even SSD) nowadays is not a precious thing... and the comfort of having it internal is huge.
2) You are using the original VUplus image (the operative system), which is quite limited. Nobody, probably, uses it ;)
That's why this is the forum of two alternative images: BH and OBH (BlackHole and OpenBlackHole): the first is based on the original vuplus code; the second is an open project.
OBH surely has the chance of installing NTFS drivers; BH I don't remember.
But, above all.... it seems you want to do everything with just this HDD: why you don't format it as ext4 by the image? Although, I don't know if the original vuplus image has got the formatting feature: I haven't used it not even for one day ;)
Yes, original vuplus image has got the formatting feature, it just offered me to format it.
But I have almost 1TB full with recordings done with my other PVR, Technisat Technistar K4 ISIO, so there are a lot .TS videos.
This is why I did not want to format it, in the hope, that I can keep them until they are viewed, while starting to record shows to VU+ DUO 4K, using NTFS.

I think, I will first flash BlackHole to find what are its features.
Then flash OpenBlackHole, to find which are the differences.

Can I backup current firmware image somehow?

I suppose so: even the basic vuplus image I believe has got a Backup menu, hasn't it?!? Have you explored its menus?
I think you are making everything too much complicated: I suggest to buy a new 2,5" HDD and your old recordings can be easily transferred from the old HDD to the new one, in many ways.
Probably the most comfortable one, particularly under BH (which is very poor at managing files and folders and devices) is by the plugin Enhanced Movie Center.
EMC is, instead, not indispensable under OBH, because its built-in features allow to manage recordings and files just pressing the "Rec list" key and then pressing MENU after having enter the /movie folder.

No, you don´t need it, as:

  1. You can flash Blackhole or Open BlackHole as your Primary image ...
  2. With one of them flashed, you can add another images under OpenMultiboot ...
  3. If you are not satisfyed ... you can downgrade ( let´s say it ) to Official Vuplus image --> 10/02/2022 --> lastest "Official" image is --> http://code.vuplus.com/index.php?action=image&image=30&model=vuduo4kse

Thanks!

I flashed BH first, then after installing a plugin, I was able to make it crashing. After each boot, I got a green screen and crashing again and again.

Ok, BH failed, so I decided to install OBH.
I was playing with it, then OBH freezed.
I don't remember reproducing steps, I was just playing with and trying to set it up to match my requirements.

I just try to set up a similar user interface as Technisat Technistar K4 ISIO device had. It has very usable, great looking user interface.

I find it is very difficult to use VU+ DUO 4K SE user interfaces (tested VU original, BH, OBH firmwares). I feel, that there are a lot software features, great hardware features, but reaching them is difficult, simply needs too much button presses. I see that OBH has modular setup, thus it is very flexible. But I feel it is not user friendly and need too much key presses.

Is there a VU+ or Enigma2 firmware, which has very user-friendly interface?

Thanks,
Konrad

When you move to a new city or town, do you immediately know every places and streets?
Images are operative systems, not a toy: you can't expect to be confident with a new O.S. after one day!
OBH is very linear and logical as its menu structure is concerned. I'm sure that, if your first image had been OBH and then, after some years, you had bought a Technisat, you'd say the same about this one.

For example: in Technisat all fonts are the same, size is always readable from 4-5 meters.

But not for VU+.
The font types and size are different, from module to module.
I can not change size of all fonts at the same time, I have to change it one by one.
Just an example for the difference.

I installed openvix image.
It seems to have better readability.

I will also try openat, too.

But I don't know how to:
- make bookmarks in a video recording
- select a series from EPG to be recorded automatically.

1) This is the OBH and BH forum. So, about ViX, ask them.
2) I'm curious to know what is "readability"!!! There are dozens of skins that can customize an image and I can say we have the best skins in the enigma2 world, the @Matrix10 ones!
Or do you think an image looks only by its default skin? And ViX is very ugly looking.
Anyway, you'll have surely much luck with ViX or OATV, if this is your idea of what an image is.

I still can not find any way to make bookmarks in a video recording.
Is it possible at all, with VU+?
