What image do you use?

>Box #1:
>Switches to stand-by once or twice a week.
Now: BH 2.0.2. (rev.B?)
Earlier: BH 2.0.1, BP 2.0, BH 1.7.9, BH 1.7.8, BP 0.1.3 - All with the same problem.
The box has been for in for repair earlier and they told me they had changed some capacitors, but now the problem is back.

>Box #2:
>Switches off within 24 hours.. This box is offline (no LAN).
Now: BH 2.0.1
The problem with this box is new.

Both boxes are inside a cabinet and is unfortunately a little heat. That's why I suspect something similar solution described here might also apply to my boxes.

Hello,

If somebody needs to buy AOZ1021ai chips, here is the site who sells them in Europe.

Success story from another, now happy, camper.
Apparently I was in time before the regulator blew.
Short story: replaced C807 > vu+duo ok.

Long story:
- my vu+duo is 2.5 years old and always either Standby or On. One night, vu+duo stopped responding: couldn't put to Standby, couldn't telnet. The funny thing was that the web interface still worked, but the channel list and timers list was empty.
- turned it off and on: RED LED. Apart from the red led briefly blinking orange when using the remote, and a spinning harddisk inside, nothing. The fan wouldn't come on either.
- searched the web and found this thread. tried the cf3 boot loader re-init but that didn't help (didn't even read the usb stick).
- decided to go for replacing the C807. also decided if that didn't work, wouldn't even try to replace the minute regulators. that would've been end of story for me, a new unit, and a setback of about EUR300.
- measured the voltages on the regulators (on the coils to the right of the regulators), top to bottom: 2.57, 1.27 and 0.7 volt (third one should have been 1.2 or so), so it looked like the bottom one has a problem (that's the same circuit that C807 seems to belong to, so maybe...).
- anyway, this is what I did (this procedure doesn't require you to complete dismantle the main pcb):
* make sure the unit is disconnected from the mains
* locate capacitor/elco C807 (see pictures in previous posts)
* gently cut off the C807 just above the base with a sharp cutter. gently pull the rubber base from the pcb so the two leads remain intact and standing.
* solder a new capacitor (I got a 33o uF, 25V item, cost EUR 0.50) on top of the two leads (see picture). observe the polarity of the elco! since a new elco has long leads and there is plenty of room in the housing, that shouldn't be a problem. Be careful with the tiny smd resistor close to the base of the capacitor (on the picture just to the right of the right lead).
* tried the unit with hd disconnected (if the file system is important to you) and it worked!
* reconnected the harddisk, reinstalled the unit in the tv set and now ok.
- trying for a couple of days, since some posts report that the problem may come back (fingers crossed)

For everybody: THANKS!

The problem with this box is new.

Box #2 is upgraded to BH 2.0.2 C and the problem is gone :)

Success story from another, now happy, user from VU+ duo
Short story: replaced C807 > vu+duo OK.

box, 3years 4months old, with front processor and white remote (main-board rev 1.3 20091228)
extra cool-fan with power from socket/connector P710.
This is never mention before: this socket should normaly suply 12V DC.
when hanging on red LED with no display, there was no Voltages on that socket.
after replacing C807 again power 12v dc on socket P710 (2 pen)

so it is easy to check if the C807 is the bad guy.

feedback makes miracles
nobody is perfect, I ain't nobody

Found this posted on another forum for those that can't fix their 'red led only problem'
just replace C807 220uF 16v with a new one or with 330uF 16v on the motherboard
Haven't tried this myself yet but will tomorrow.

Just want to say thanks for this information, had the red light of death and today swapped out C807. Box now working fine again.

Yet another success story from a VERY, VERY happy user

Changed the C807 for a 220 uF 25v 105 c off Ebay for £1 for 6
cut off at the stalks as in previous posts and soldered the new capacitor onto them
Turned on and the front display came straight on
Box about 4 yrs old as was one of the first batch so by some of the boxes on here it hasn't lasted to bad!
Many thanks to all the people in this thread as I would have just bought a new box for £300 but cost me £1

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!
:thanks:

my vu-duo stopped working yesterday night, with red led ... i tested the voltage from the PSU with a voltimeter, and i got only the +5V, so i thought it was the psu damaged and ordered a new one from china....
Today i wanted to get a chance to the C807 substitution, with onother 220uF 16v i had in my tools and..... it works!!!!!! thank you all for the info!!!

My Duo also experienced the red-light-only-problem last weekend. Replacing the C807 capacitor made it working again! :)

For those whose duo is still not working after replacing c807 here is the solution.

View attachment 7601

If you don't change c807 on time, and if you play and experiment with bricked duo with power switched on, the regulator (No3 on photo) will die. On duo it's marked Pz 1021ai and universal name isAOZ1212, there are 3 exactly the same regulators on duo (see photo), but note that all are outputing different voltages, this is from memory (measure before changing anything):
1. gives 2.5v
2. gives 1.25v
3. gives 1.15v

If you can find a spare (which is extremely difficult) just replace it and duo will work like new.

And if no spare is available don't worry there is a solution. Here is what we did:
We found manual schematic for DIY regulator that converts 5v to 1.25, and we made it
Took out the working regulator from position 2 on photo and istalled it into position 3 in place of defect regulator.
We manualy injected 1.25v from theDIY regulator directly into the output pins of 2nd regulator and whouala the DUO works like new.

Now the cause of this is simple, prolonged exposure to heat makes condensator c807 break, which can than break regulator. The position of c807 is very near HDD which creates heat especially if used extensively. Or if you have fan problems this can reduce the amount of air circulating which can be also cause. Or simply the batch of condensers used in some duo mainboards is not so good. In my case, it was after 2 and a half years of extensive use. And the new condenser costs just 5eurocents and the regulator costs 1 euro.

Thank you very much for this post. My box went nuts just on saturday night, it kept restarting itself for maybe 4 times and then it just froze at "Starting...". Only red light, nothing else, no fan, no LAN leds, no nothing. For some time the box was starting really long with red light, maybe 2 or 3 hours. I should have brought it straight to repair, but I didnt. Anyway, on monday I brought it to repair. Capacitor C807 and all 3 regulators have been changed, now the box is up and running again just fine.
So many thanks to you as the technician didnt have to search for the problem because of your post.

thanks.

Hi if you read the whole thread from start to finish you would have the information you require but if you check post 63 for voltage information and post 185 for site that sells buck regulator and post 186 shows you 3 regulators in a row clearly this should get you started. hth

Dear All.
my vu-duo stopped working few days ago ... I tested the voltage in Power supply and voltage on board
where need 5v or 5v2 I have 3.0V
where 34v -> 41 v
where 3v3 -> 2.0v
on usb haven't power
12 v it is stability
What you think ,is it PS?

Could be, depends on how old is and how many hours was under power. MTBF by my opinion is about 5000 hours.

hello
my box vu+ duo has the same problem since 4 days
I searched the C807 220uF 16v, the 16v 330uF, 330uF 25v the trace of these parts in the areas I looked at 3/4 stores
I found that the 50v 220uF, I hesitate to install
So I ask your opinion if I can or not to replace it?

thank you

je n'ai trouvé que le 220uF 50v, j'hesite à l'installer
je demande donc votre avis si je peux ou non le remplacer ?
