HDMI - 5.1 Dolby Digital - sometimes identified as 2.0

Hi,

from time to time I face the problem with HDMI soundoutput, I have connected receiver Pioneer VSX 925K to my VU+ Duo. When I watch program broadcasted in Dolby Digital 5.1 sometimes the receiver is showing like the program is broadcasted in Dolby Digital 2.0. I tried to change DolbyDigital Downmix from off to on and back, but again, only Dolby Digital 2.0 is detected. When I turn off receiver and restart VU+ Duo, usually the signal is detected correctly.

I saw some messages and issues with the connection with optical output, but not sure, whether this is similar issue or not.

Never had such a problem with a Denon AV receiver and HDMI.
Dolby downmix ON always outputs 2-channel LPCM audio.
I can suggest you to disable HDMI CEC protocol, if active.

Are you sure the audio is true DD 5.1 track ?

i agree, that sometimes, it is hard to say. I just watch the program, and the broadcaster says, that it is 5.1 DD program. I could see DolbyDigital mark active, but this could also mean DD2.0. Is there any way, how to identify and display in BH image or using some other third party plugin what type of audio is really broadcasting?

I could see DolbyDigital mark active, but this could also mean DD2.0.
Actually the DD icon is shown by the skin (e.g. the Infobar) when the flag Multichannel is set.
I agree that DD icon is shown also for a DD 2.0 audio stream, and therefore "Multichannel" definition is somehow misleading in this case and it's not possible to completely relay on its original meaning (>2 stereo channels).

I hope that in the future we could also have some internal variable in the Enigma2 specifying the number of audio channels really transmitted within the digital stream.
