Haha, you're right.
I just replaced the signal bar with a colored one in infobar and added some information about highlighted channel (and a clock) in channel list, instead of 'next event'.
Here are two pics, please feel free to remove them if it is against the rules.



However, I couldn't figure how to remove those annoying channel numbers in the list, and it doesn't exist a setting to do so in setup screen either.
Can you help me with that, if it's an easy task like deleting or changing a few lines in skin.xml ?

You can not delete it but you can hide it.
The problem is that you have a big space without anything if you hide.
And this can not be changed in skin coding.

Search in <screen name="ChannelSelection"

coding

serviceNumberFont="Regular;26" change to hide serviceNumberFont="Regular;00"

Here's how it looks:

I changed the color of event description too while at it, but I have no idea why the color of little progress bars changed as well.
However it doesn't look bad at all, in fact I quite like it this way.
