red light problem

hi everyone, i need some help with my duo. i know this topic has been spoken about many times, but i am stuck with a duo that will not work. all i get is the red light staying on and 'starting' in the display window. i have followed all previous advice about re flashing with various versions of bh, using three different flash drives, and i have even had the capacitor and regulator changed and no other faults were found by my local electronics repair shop. as i said earlier, this topic has been covered many times but i have gone as far as the threads go but they seem to come to a sudden stop and no further action is offered or suggested. do i send it to a vu+ specialist or just admit defeat and buy a new one ?

I think you box is clone , and the the ic flash has been stuck and wiped out with Vu+ timebomb, courtesy of BH team..
Buy your self original box , you ll be fine

thanks for the reply hazzhass. i think you are right in saying the box is done, but wrong about it being a clone, it is original as certified by world of satellite.
i am just going to hang fire on it a little longer in the hope that one of the members comes up with a bit of magic, as they often do.

hi all, i forgot to mention in my previous post that my duo has been flashed with bh a number of times which is another reason why i am convinced it is not a clone. the only thing i have not tried is to flash it with an earlier version of bh, (1.7.6 i think), because i cannot find it on the forums.

Just to clear this up, what Vu+ puts in there drivers with regards to anti-clone measures has NOTHING to do with the Black Hole team.

As for the problem with the box itself, there is a thread on here (somewhere) that suggests the Duo can sometimes get into a state where it wipes the bootloader, and stops it from being able to be flashed propperly, in the same thread it also shows you how to fix this.

hi evo, i too thought hazzhass was wrong to blame the bh team, i hope this does not reflect on me. just to update, i tried numerous times to flash my duo, but just got 'starting....in the display. however, i have just flashed it with 1.6.5 and the display now reads vu+ duo. could you advise me whether i should now flash with latest bh ? at present the box only has the power cord connected, even the hdd is disconnected and i don't want to connect everything back up before i am sure all is ok, can you advise or should i revert back to the forum ? thanks in advance

Try upgrading the bootloader and then try updating to the latest Bh version again.

no joy there mate, it stayed on 'starting.... again, so i just re-flashed it with 1.6.5 again and now i have vu+ duo displayed, so i'm going to connect it up and see what happens, thanks again.

Is your Vu Duo about 3 or 4 year old and crashes lately?
If You answer Yes than red led and Starting... is caused by bad capacitors near power supply.
Find three capacitors on the main board near orange supply board signed as C807. This three capacitors should be 220uF/16V.
Buy new ones and replace or ask someone to replace.
Don't try to force power on before this, because it can destroy much more.
I already fix such problem at mine Vu Duo.
Good Luck

Hello, I have had the same problem with my Vu+duo that was staying with a red light. I changed the capacitor as follow 330µF 16v and now all is working as well as possible. I read on Vu+communauty that "the cause of this is simple, prolonged exposure to heat makes condensator c807 break, which can than break regulator. The position of c807 is very near HDD which creates heat especially if used extensively. Or if you have fan problems this can reduce the amount of air circulating which can be also cause. Or simply the batch of condensers used in some duo mainboards is not so good. In my case, it was after 2 and a half years of extensive use. And the new condenser costs just 5 eurocents and the regulator costs 1 euro"
Good luck
