USB Dongle Recognised, But No Images

Hi,

Just got a VU+ Solo with Blackhole 2.0.1.

Bought a cheap Wifi dongle, plugged it in, and after a bit of setting up managed to get the Network Test to show all green apart from Nameserver. Whatever I try I cannot get it to get the Nameserver green.

The box fully works when I plug it in using ethernet, but I would prefer for it to be wireless.

Does anyone know if when a USB dongle doesn't work with the VU+, does it still show as being recognised? Or will it just not show at all?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Chris.

Thanks for the help.

Been following the guide, but I'm getting a problem.

When I connect via Telnet, and type in all those commands, it comes up with 'no wireless extensions' and 'Interface doesn't support scanning'.
I have attached a screengrab of the problem. Any ideas?

I typed in iwconfig and it says that my Wifi dongle is a 'RT2870STA'. Is this supported with Blackhole 2.0.1?

Thanks in advance

Read CAREFULLY my support post.
It's clearly reported that these command generates a file into /tmp folder of your box.
This file is NEEDED to understand what mean on your box.
Catch the file from your box and upload it.

I have been reading your post, but I didn't think what I had done was working, thats why I posted the screengrab to see if I had done it right.

Your post doesn't say how to get this file off of the box. How do you do it?

You Can do it with FTP
for example with a program such as total commander

Thank you.

I've managed to get the file now, and I have attached it.
If you have any ideas, I would very much appreciate it.

I am not a specialist in wifi
but to me, it seems that your wifi work.

Have you tried to manually setup nameserver
and reboot ?

When I do a network test, I manage to get all greens apart from the Nameserver. How do I manually set this up?

When I have my VU+ connected via ethernet, it comes up with a Nameserver, but not when I use wifi.

nameserver is the same as with a wired connection if you use the same router/modem?

You can edit in wireless network Setup MENU >>Nameserver setting

restart box

As reported by Paolino, into this log there is nothing reference about WLan devices.
Please connect your stick in the front USB port (for testing purposes only) and relaunch the commands you do before.
Be sure you restart your box prior to launch diagnostic commands.
Thanks

Have moved the USB to front and redone it. Attached is the file, hopefully everything is there.

I think that you are too far from your Access Point (WiFi router signal level -85dBm) - signal level very low. Chipset is supported by BH 2.0.1.

As reported by Paolino, you should verify carefully your network equpment configuration (router/access point) and verify it's configured correctly and with max power.
Looking into the diagnostic file, your dongle detects some wifi networks but there are very distant with low level signal and quality:
Code:
Quality=7/100  Signal level=-87 dBm  Noise level=-82 dBm
Quality=13/100  Signal level=-85 dBm  Noise level=-80 dBm
Quality=13/100  Signal level=-85 dBm  Noise level=-80 dBm

Seems 3 different wifi networks with 3 different access points but they uses the same channel and can be problematic.
Change the channel (I suggest an higher one) and retry connecting via wireless.
