From the top of my Head I had 1365 channels.

You said that you have like 30% less signal on this transponder with your UNO. Is it the same with a duo, meaning do you have less signal on this transponde?

    Merci

Canal+ Sport HD there is about 15% stronger signal than France 2 HD.
If your signal is 50% on Canal+ Sport HD then probably you will not be able to get France 2 HD
    with 50%-15%= +- 35% signal.

I currently have cloudy in the northwest of Europe
so the signal is about 4-5% lower
I have France 2 HD 84% and Canal+ Sport HD 99% on VU Uno and +-80 cm ( old ) satellite dish.
As you can see VU Uno have a great tuner with a 99% signal on 80 cm and a cloudy sky full of static.

    Hi Matrix10,

I am not sure I understood your point above. Are you saying that you don't see a difference between a 60 or 80 cm dish or that the difference is about 40%?

I checked Astra web site and they have a great tool for dish size and orientation calculation. Results is that they advise a 60cm dish.

I don't have a 2nd installation but I have a friend who bought an UNO too (he doesnt have the antena yet as he is waiting my feedback for the size of the dish. So i can test with his.
    Thank you

So you are saying that 35% signal is too small to get anything? I will have to double check but I think I have some channels who go down to 30% but will have to confirm.

    No,

    Your sat dish +-60cm
    My dish +- 80 cm

There can not be 40% difference in signal strength between +-60cm and +-80cm dish.
Therefore antenna installation is not OK (cable/LNB etc) or not optimally tuned or the receiver is defective.

I still think that this is the first one
Your antenna installation is not OK if you have only 49% sig on 12187000,27500000,H,FEC 3/4 and I have 90% on 80cm dish
I think you can still have at least 15 to 25% more.

The limit is somewhere around 35%
But then you have an unstable reception .

Yo must have on Canal+ Sport HD At least 75% signal compared with me, with 99% signal and 80 cm dish.
If you have 75% signal on Canal+ Sport HD and you can not see France 2 HD
then something else is wrong and not the antenna
But if you have only +-50% signal then it comes to dish/lnb/cables/tuning antenna

    Thanks Artorius.

I will out until Thursday but on my return I will try with a 2nd uno just in case to confirm that the issue is on the installation.
Installation is quite simple, 10m cable, 1 LNB and 1 dish 60cm so I believe the issue will be on the dish orientation rather than the rest.

Yes you are right the limit is around 35% or at least Sky news which I receive with only 35% works with some glitches.

what is strange with France 2 HD transponder is that I have 0 signal when I look into the manual service scan or manual pointer while we could have imagine to see at least 30% or even 15%.

Anyway will test with the 2nd box will Artorius will test too.

    Merci

Tonight I took the Uno from the lounge and swapped it with the Duo in the bedroom.

The good news is the box is fine with 89% signal strength on France 2 HD :D

Bad news is I need to replace 10m of cable from the rear to the front of the house.

    Hello,

I have tested my setup with the vu+uno of a friend (running New VTI 3.1) and I have exactly the same results. So I will try to re-orient my dish.
If not working I will buy a 80 cm one :)

Thanks again guys for all your support. Much appreciated!!
    (will update once done)

insane suggestion: already tryed to turn off ALL the wireless/cordless base/light and others electrical hw for a test?

is not a solution, but i had a similar prob with another dec many times ago... ;)
if something change maybe is enough to move (a bit, for me was enough about 30cm) that hw, just a suggestion

    I also notice a loss of about 15%-25% between a 500(original-ALPS tuner)and others comapared to the UNO .. using a 110cms +motor + 0.2 lnb...
@XabiX : if you had a small signal amp, it could boost the signal if you are using more than 15mtr cable from lnb to reciever.

Are you saying that DM500 tuner is around 20% better than the uno one?

My cable was made of a 15m cable so it should be around 14m50 long. I don't see much of my neighbors with sat ampli close to the dish, i don't know then if it usual to have one.
I ll check if this could be beneficial.

    1. It is not true that the cable of 15 m length should use Amplifier
2.It is not true that VUuno tuner is worse than any other HD Linux boxes on the market .
I have comparing with 7 different HD boxes.
On the contrary VUuno tuner has excellent reception and sensitivity.

This whole discussion really should be taken on the quality
of LNB, cable and satellite dish size
as well as how to correctly position the satellite dish.
because VUuno in this case is not the problem that causes bad reception
    but antenna installation.

Antenna amplifiers are used for large cable length
over 30/40 m and it not only amplify the signal
but also interference and produces noise.

In this case it is better to use a LNB with a larger line gain and low noise for large cable lengths over 30/40 m, and the highest quality cable.

The only adequate result and antenna gain is achieved with a good directional antenna of adequate size.
So we need to pay attention to the antenna mounting
and orientation As well as other >>quality LNB, cable and connectors.

Thank you all for your patience and help. Now the issue has been solved.
I just went on the roof and turned a little bit the LNB towards -11,3° which I didn't do initially.
Now I have min 66% of SNR on any transponder and around 80% in general with my 60cm dish.
Special thanks to Matrix10 and Artorius.
(Vu+ uno is a really a lovely demo, I loved it so much)

    I'm glad that everything worked.
I must be honest that I knew from the start what the problem was.
Of course it much depends on personal experience.
Now you will know and help others with similar problems.

As you saw two millimeters in changing the dish position
means a lot to the Antenna sig gain.
