Hi,
I just downloaded BlackHole-1.4.4-E-bm750_usb.zip, extracted it to usb stick (formatted to FAT 32 I am nearly certain),.
I have only the vuplus/duo folders on the stick and the 3 files inside.

When I switch off the box , plug in the USB stick on the front and restart I get "reading USB" which then changes to "programming" on the vu+display, and it stays like that for ages. No tv screen output.

Should this be happening?
If so, how long before something else happens?

I did that Artorious.
This doesnt need a HDD installed, does it?
Mine is external via USB (unplugged during reflash)

It turns out that the reason it was not working is that the box was still connected to the computer via ethernet cable. removed that and it worked straight away

Now that I am in...
The reason I changed image was that I could not connect to the box via Filezilla or telnet. I was on Vix 1.2 which didnt gice me an option to restart these daemons. When setting up this image I chose not to set a password.
Using Filezilla (on Ubuntu 10.10) I still get.. connection refused by server. I was using root/passowrd to connect, also tried root/root. Still no luck.
This was with my firewall switched off (guarddog). UFW is also disabled
Connection also refused with telnet.
any ideas?

I used to be able to use filezilla with vix 1.2 before it collapsed. That's what is so confusing.
Ubuntu can definitely see the box as "SFTP File Transfer on bm750" is visible in the network folder

Vu+ User
Are the default username and passwords for the vu+ "root" and "password"?

There is no default password. The username is root, leave the password field blank when connecting using filezilla the first time.

Set a password later using telnet to connect, and the 'passwd' command.
