Howto share your Windows 7 hdd/movie folder with your VU box

First of all you need to make sure that you have administrator privileges on your Windows 7 PC and your firewall rules allow vu accessing W7 PC - this includes any additional security software you've already installed on your PC (you may need to add new rule to your firewall settings).
This tutorial has been made using BH ver 2.0.4

Then follow the below (it took me 10min to set up everything).

1. Setting up CIFS share for movie folder on W7 PC:

W7_sharing.jpg

go to your movie folder properties > sharing > advanced sharing > thick 'share this folder' > enter 'share name' (as I did above) > apply

2. Make sure everyone has full control (click 'permissions'):

W7_folder_permission.jpg

That's all I've done on my W7 machine.

3. On your vu remote control press blue > blue > scroll down to 'network browse & mountpoints' > LAN connection > and give your vu chance to scan entire network to find all accessible devices:

4. When it's done press green button ('mounts management') then select 'add new network mount point'. Your settings should be as below:

screenshot2_h.JPG

- active - enable;
- local share name - enter whatever you like - I named my folder 'pc';
- mount type - CIFS share;
- server IP - your W7 IP address;
- server share - enter your movie folder share name you used in point 1 (I entered as '/movies' with forward slash at the beginning);
- use as HDD replacement - no (I do not recommend to use network share as HDD replacement unless your PC is running 247 - however I experienced funny things including GSOD, when tested this feature earlier);
- mount options - rw;
- username - use your W7 username;
- password - use your W7 password.
Press OK to activate your settings (it may take a while to create new mount point).

5. When it's done you can check that your new mount point is visible and mounted - go to 'mountpoints management':

screenshot3_h.JPG

As you can see the above I've managed to create two CIFS mount points and both of them are mounted at this stage.

6. Go to menu > media player and you will see your movie folders added to the file lists:

7. Go to your movie folder ('pc' folder in this case) and select movie you'd like to play:

Be aware of:
- your PC must be on when you're trying to view movie folder located on your PC :)
- if CIFS mount points are invisible in media player you need to restart your vu;
- unfortunately CIFS mount points are not 'hot plug' yet, so you need to turn your PC on then reboot your VU.

Hope it helps.

Hi,
thats what i was looking for, but i didn't get it to work
my share folder on W7 is on C:/Series, i've done everything that is above
on vu+ also everything is done
but i still have a cross instead of the wolrd icon when checking the mounting points
any ideas?
thank you in advance

check your firewall and any other security software (or disable them for a while). 1st turn your PC on and then your vu on.
You must set share for folder 'series' with full control for everyone. And you may need to grant admin rights for this folder first.
Vu settings:
- active - enable
- local share name - series
- mount type - CIFS share
- server IP - your W7 IP address
- server share - /series
- use as HDD replacement - no
- mount options - rw
- username - use your W7 username
- password - use your W7 password

- username - use your W7 username
- password - use your W7 password

would i leave this blank if i dont have a user name/pass?

no, you need username and password. You can create new user and password and give him administrator privileges (that's the easiest way).

You will have to share folder with "everyone" and enable password free sharing, in
advanced sharing options (somewhere in network and sharing).

That is correct, could be an issue of course. What I tried to say is that, if you don't have a password on user account in windows, you need to enable the at setting, or better (safer) set password on the account.

still not working
i've
- deactivated the firewall
- set a login and pass for PC
- shared for everyone the folder C:/hbb
- configured the vu+ as shown above (the vu is detecting my computer ip no problem)
- started the p before the vu+

still getting the cross instead of the wolrd icon
:(

Try goto network and sharing center, edit advanced sharing settings, set password enabled sharing off. Share with "everyone" (as you write you have).
In vu+, leave both user and pass empty.
Try this for debugging if it is a credentials problem.

Try this:-
On your PC first create a New User named vuplus (allowing Administrator rights and using vuplus for both username and password).
Then in your New User create a Shared Folder also named vuplus (with full permissions).
In the Shared Folder open a folder named movie.
With Remote, goto Menu>SetUp>System>Network>MountManager>Add New Network Mountpoint
Enter the following detils:-
Active = Enable
Local Share Name = PC (or whatever name you like, makes no difference at all)
Mount type = CIFS share
Server Ip = 192.168.x.yy (meaning your PC IP)
Server share = /vuplus
Use as HDD replacement = yes (because you have no Internal/External HDD)
Mount options = rw
Username = vuplus
Password = vuplus
Press Ok to activate the Mountpoint
Exit when ready.
Hope it will work out for you.

I have a problem with an audio watching movies from my PC HDD. For example a movie Broken.City.2013.720p.BluRay.DTS.x264-PublicHD I can play but the audio is stereo only. I can not set DolbyDigital at all. Is there any solution?

Disable digital downmix. If your file has only dts tracks you need also an amplifier to decode dts audio track

It's not working, unfortunately. I do have an amplfier and AC3 is working fine while watching TV. I'll try another file to play in the evening and I'll let you know.
