A common question and an unusual (stereophile) one [rt2870]

Common one first: I have a Netgear WNDR3700v2 router (b/g/n dual band 2.4 - 5 GHz) and would like to try a wireless connection to my vu+ duo. Will my linksys USB thingy work? Otherways, which dongle would you advise me to buy?

Question #2: Should I prefer the powerline approach, do you expect it to cause some noise on the electrical line? I have some nice audio gear and would be really annoyed in case anything wrong came out of it.

Tnx

If you report the exact model of your wifi stick I can check if it's supported or not :)

As correctly stated by mr. Murphy, it's obviously v2 :)

No problem.
I upload here an ipk package to try to support your wifi device.
Please be careful: it's experimental and I haven't tested it because I haven't any compatible device with it.
Please also use latest BH version to minimize green screens :) and report if the drivers works properly or not :)

Gee... to have a brand new image with a wifi driver to try and no time to do that .... You are so kind, I feel guilty at not being able to test this beauty soon enough ... Week end is over and working hours are so tight .... (and the boss here, Daisy Duck, she would NOT be impressed, should anything go wrong and the VU bricked if only for a couple hours :) ).

I'll try to spare some tinkering hours asap and will let you know, tnx again.

Oh, btw, installing the IPK means 1-grab the package, 2-FTP it to /tmp ad then 3-there should be a menu option for manual install, right? What happens next? Dongle recognized and (hopefully) fully working or are there more configurations to do?

bye nad tnx

You can install the IPK file in telnet session with
Code:
ipkg install /tmp/*-ipk
or via BH addon manager with
Code:
green button -> yellow button -> Manual install ipk file
Next, plug your device and reboot your box.
If it's recognized you can configure it via
Code:
Menu -> Configuration -> System -> Network

Dependes of the device. It's possible that some Netgear devices uses Ralink chipset but I don't have a total list of supported devices.
The support of other chip-maker are covered by Vu+ and third party Teams like BlackHole :)

Ok, just upgraded to BH 1.5 and it's great! Quite an improvement both with picture quality and responsiveness.
Bad news: Wifi won't work: the box is not seeing it .... any suggestion?
Tnx

The drivers for your device are not included into BH 1.5 because we haven't done all the preliminary tests around id.
Will be included into BH 1.5.1.

Tnx for your reply, I tried with the driver you sent me ... is that supposed to work?

The driver is the rt2870 I've posted above but needs one or two Enigma2 patches to work properly.
For this reason I haven't inserted it into the BH 1.5 but in the next image will be included surely.

Ah ok ...
2 questions then .....
1) How do I uninstall the files I have installed from that package?
2)when do you think 1.5.1 is coming out?
tnx

The package files don't break your image setup but you can remove it with this command:
Code:
ipkg remove rt3572

My apologies: in my previous post I've wrote that your driver for wifi is rt2870 but the correct driver is rt372. Both will be included into BH 1.5.1.

I haven't a precise date about new BH release.
