Dolby Downmix or not

Hi everyone,

since 2 months I have a sony BDV-L600 2.1ch connected through HDMI to my vu+ duo.
I was wondering if I have to use the dolby downmix or not. Both work but which is the best ? if I keep the downmix off, so pure 5.1 dolby digital, some sounds (typically explosions or shots) are very loud while music and voices are lower.
I thought was due to speakers settings but when I play blurays everything works perfectly and sounds are balanced good.

So.... downmix or not ? :)

I'm running blackhole 1.6.5

Thanks

With downmix OFF if the box plays a DD/AC3 audio track the volume control is demanded to HT system.
When you turn downmix ON the volume control is demanded to box.
I think you can setup (if it's possible of course9 some specific settings on your HT system for the HDMI port who the Vu+ box is connected.
I've setted downmix OFF :)

I would suggest to keep the downmix off, unless one has a very antiquated TV. With down mixing you loose the Dolby Digital encoding, so the TV or the home theater cannot capitalize on the encoding. The advantage of downmix is that it brings all sound channels on the same volume level, which might be preferred by some with less powerful TV (no HT).
