USB accesses at the front and at the back vs e-SATA !!!!

Vu+ Newbie
I am a bit confused about these two USB accesses one at front and the other at the back , the one at front according to the product descriptions ( 3 - USB Host :- connects the USB memory stick or to external HDD . And the one at the according to the product descriptions ( 9- connects the USB memory stick or external HDD , which means to me they are the same !!!
Then what about e-SATA at the back which according to the product discriptions ( 7-connects the external HDD using e-SATA cable !!! Therefore my questions to you as follows :-
1- Is there an ordinary HDD and e-SATA HDD ??
2- My receiver has already a built-in HDD 1 Tera bit and the dealer technician told me you can not connect any HDD at the e-SATA access because this will confilect with the built-in HDD inside the receiver , and I forgot to ask him about connecting another HDD 2 Tera bit at one of the other USB accsses either at the front or at the back as far the 2 Tera bit HDD not connected to the e-SATA access ?? Please Advice and elaporate on your respond and comments .

Inetrnal SATA and e-Sata connectors doesen't have problems to live toghether.
I've into Ultimo a 1Tb HDD connected internally and on eSATA port (with a suitable box with eSATA connection too) another 1Tb HDD.
The box can use both disks without problems.

About the eSATA box: inside it, there is a classic SATA HDD like the one I've into my Ultimo.

Actualy My receiver is VU+Ultimo I forget to mention its name in my subject the same one You have
You installed a 1Tb HDD internally and one 1Tb HDD externally through the e-SATA port and they work fine Therefore what you did contradict with what the Dreambox Multimeadia dealer tecchnician who sell and maintain Vu+Ultimo products that only one HDD inside or outside through e-SATA port and not both
one inside and one connected through e-SAT port, Actually the technicain said do not connect any HDD to e-SAT port as far as there is a HDD inside the receiver - Therefore forget about e-SATA port My question can I connect a 2Tb HDD through one of the USB accesses either in the front or in the back

You can connect also another HDD via USB port.
I suggest to use Internal SATA or eSATA connector to maximize performances instead of USB connection.

(I suggest to use Internal SATA or eSATA connector to maximize performances instead of USB connection. )

But I have already an internal e-SATA HDD 1Tb and the e-SATA port nothing connected to it and you saying that connecting to any HDD to e-SATA port is better than connecting to USB connection when comes to performances The reason that I need to add another 1Tb HDD to the receiver because they at the dealer shop refuse to install a 2Tb HDD internally they said I can not install 2Tb HDD internally Only 1Tb HDD is the maximum internally then I told them can I connect another 1Tb HDD to this vacant e-SATA port externally they said No as far there is an internal 1Tb HDD , Please advice ?

The dealer has taken very bad informations.
I have on my Ultimo:
- 1Tb HDD SATA connected to internal Sata port
- 1Tb HDD SATA connected to eSATA connector
and both work toghether very good.

I think the 2Tb HDDs are supported but I've not tested it.

The first HDD is used to store records and mounted into /media/hdd
The second HDD contains media files and I've mounted it on /media/video

Both works toghether without problems.
Other boxes like DM doesen't allow the simultaneous usage of internal SATA and eSATA port.

Simple!
Connect both disks and use Device Manager (BH Images) into Blue Panel (2 x blue button) to mount your devices.
When they are correctly mounted you can transfer your media via FTP (for example)

I am doing the same. That is using an Internal Drive for Recordings/Photos/MP3music and an External Docking Station via E-SATA for media files.
That setup works fine.
Next to this I have a dual partition USB-Drive at the back for Universe switching and to store PICONS/EPG data .

It all works together and yes 2T HDD are also supported. Can Dock a 3TB to see if that works too if you want? As only Full BD's are on that one, I will have to put something readable for my UNO Media Player on it first. 3TB is different as it has additional requirements regarding partioning.

E-SATA is internally faster because it has a lot less overhead compared to USB2. The bus standard also supports higher speeds but that dos not make a difference as the processor can't fill either one. Doing FTP to the box will not make any difference though as Fast Ethernet at 100 Mbps limit will be the bottleneck. So in practice you won't notice any difference playing media files.

The main advantage of using E-SATA over USB is that it keeps that USB port free for other purposes. As there are only 2 at the back (Keyboard/Mouse, WiFi, Tuner etc) not unimportant for some of us. The one on the front is typically kept free for firmware upgrades and instant media playback from a stick.

Album
----------------------------------------------------------------
Year Gener
---------------------------------------------------------------
Now Playing
----------------------------------------------------------------------
File List Harddisk
Internal Flash
-----------------------------------------------------------
Play List
-----------------------------------------

Selecting Setup from main menu
- service searching
- system
- common Interface
-Parent control
- Factory reset
------------------------------
Selcting system gives :-

- Language
- customize
- Timezone
- Harddisk
- Network
- Display setup
- keyboard
-skin
-----------------------------------------------

selecting Harddisk gives

- Harddisk Setup

Did you install BH 1.7.8 firmware? Without installing BlackHole the extra menus won't be available.
Blue Panel (2 x blue button) brings you to the menu you need.
