VU+ duo 2 freezes

Hi,

I recently bought a VU+ duo 2 and have installed BH. The setup works well on FTA channels.

My provider is the norwegian company RiksTV , broadcasting on DVB-T. I have installed a Strong CA module and the smartcard is inserted in this unit.

When watching CA channels the image freezes after 5-15 minutes and the unit becomes unresponsive to the remote control. The only action that works is to power off the unit with the swith at the back of the unit.

There does not seem to be any crash log generated, and I have not been able to find anything in the debug log. I have also tried VIX and am experiencing the same issue.

Anyone got some advice on what could be causing this?

Edit: the CAM module is Strong CNX1660

I just left the unit running on an FTA channel and noticed it also crashes on this channel. CAM module was not installed so it seems the issue is not related to the CAM module after all.. any idea on how to trubleshoot?

We need more information:

  1. Image installed ( only blackhole images: BlackHole or Open BlackHole ), not other images rather than this ones.
  2. Crashlog that you probably you can found in:
  • /home/root folder
  • /home/root/logs
  • /media/hdd
  • /media/hdd/logs
  • /media/usb/logs

Thanks for your reply. Inage is BH 3.0.3 (Enigma 2017-03-27-master)

I have checked all mentioned folders and there are no files inside. It seems the box is actually not crashing, but just "freezing".

Does this freezing occur when the cam, and card, are removed?
First you need to troubleshoot the problem, is it software, or hardware, related.
I suspect that it's probably software related, but the only way to be sure is to disconnect/remove any USB connected devices, the Cam/card, hard drive, etc..
Do a fresh installation, of Blackhole, but do not use any backups, or even load any additional software, including your channel list.
Just manually scan in a few channels then test the receiver, to see if it freezes.
If it is hardware it could be as simple as over heating, due to where you have it located.

Do you have your receiver connected to a satellite dish, or just to your terrestrial tuner?
Is it an internal Cable/Terrestrial tuner, or an external USB device?

Thanks for your help in guiding me to troubleshoot this.

So far my finding is:
- issue occurs on OTA and CA channels
- issue also occurs when CAM module and HD is removed from unit
- issue occurs on BH, VIX and VU+ stock software
- i took off the unit's cover and placed it outside and still freeze occured. For me this suggests it is not a temp issue.

Normally whole unit freezes, but today on one occation video kept running but unit dropped from network and did not respond to remote.

Software was on all occations flashed from USB without any backup. No plugins have been installed manually.

Unit is only attached to an active DVB-T antenna, no satelite. Tuner is internal. On latest try it took approx 25 min for the unit to freeze.

While typing the previous post I remembered that there is an option to enable 5V for the DVB-T antenna which I have left on earlier. I have now set that to "off" to see if it makes a difference. Not sure what that functionality does but image still is ok and been running for 10min so far..

You can check how your VU+ Duo 2 is running, by using the System Information option.
Press the Blue Button, followed by the Yellow button.

I have done some more investigations.

Changing 5V to "off" probably made no difference. The unit ran for approx 5 hours this time, but as soon as I started using the box (changing channels, streaming from mobile etc.) it crashed.

I have attached the linux log files to this post. I think the crash is captured in the /var/log/messages file starting at timestamp 22:42:33. I tried to include the content of the file in the post, but the forum software flagged it as spam so I was not able to post it.

Anyone able to understand what happened?

Edit: I have also noticed that during crash image normally disappears and WebIf is unreachable, but FTP seems to be working fine.

I have done some further troubleshooting.

There seems to be 2 issues:

1. One issue is descibed in the post above. This seems to happen when streaming from mobile phone, and it seems it is the software "transtreamproxy" which crashes. In this mode WebIf and image goes down, but ftp remains active (software issue).

2. The second issue which is the one I started troubleshooting happens without any use of the box. Just leaving it running on any channel will make the box freeze after 5min - 5 hours. In this mode image, WebIf and also FTP goes down. I have checked /var/log/messages and /var/log/dmesg and there is no output to these logs when the unit crashes.

I think I have run out of options for troubleshooting (2) and that it must be a HW issue. Any thoughts?

You can try testing it using a satellite dish, friends, or relatives, or you could try using your Internet connection.
I don't recall uf you stated if you're using an internal DVB C/T tuner, or an external USB tuner, for your receiver.

Try going into the Menu, Addons, Addons Download Manager, Blackhole Addons Plugins and install the latest IPTV player.
After it has completed go into the Menu, Plugins and select the IPTV Player.
Let it update then try the Vumoo option.

If you're using the internal tuner and it happens with BH, VIX and VU+ stock software I would think this could be hardware failure.
Since the box should be still under warranty ask for a replacement.
