VU plus duo automatically goes into record mode

Hello all,

I have an issue with my duo+ (using BH 2.1.5, dual satellite [tuner A - SLY UK dish, tuner B - motorised Dish] I noticed for the past couple of weeks that when watching sly UK my box automatically turns the motorised dish and goes into recording mode. All by itself.

When I hit the record button on the remote it does not offer to "Stop Recording" on the menu and there are no recordings being saved in my media. Therefore the only way I can stop this is to restart the box, which is very annoying.

In doing some testing... This does not happen if...
a) I am viewing a channel on another satellite on tuner B. i.e. not sly UK.
b) I am recording a channel on tuner B and watching sly UK.
c) I remove the network connection from the rear of the box.

Now I cant be certain of this but its as if someone is hacking my box and gaining access to box or maybe sly has incorporated something in its signal to cause this annoyance.

I would be grateful if someone can shed some light on this issue.

Hi Elbmw,
I have exactly the same issue with my vu duo. I don't think it has anything to do with SLY. It happens with my box when watching FTA channels (like BBC TV).
Neither has it got to do with the motorized dish; i only have one tuner configured (tuner B) as I only have one cable in the bedroom! Would also be interested to find a solution!!
Hope someone has a remedy.

Check is turn on option

Automatically start timeshift after

You can find it in Menu, search. If is it you can turn off. But it is not regular Record.

Hi thanks for the replies...

@radja thanks for the info however it is not a "timeshift" issue. I do not have permanent timeshift either. As mentioned in original post first I see the dish rotating icon (I cannot see where it moves to) then it begins to record except that it doesnt record anything that I can find.

@manu1201 have you tried watching the FTA channels you mentioned with the network cable pulled out? Please try that and post back here.

Have you opened your box on Internet for streaming outisde your LAN? If YES, probably someone is seen TV with your box via streaming.

Thanks angelofsky1980. Thats probably the most likely explanation. Yes, I had created a port forwarding rule on my router that forwards port 8001 to the box's LAN ip address a while ago when I was testing that feature and had forgotten about it. Its been about a year since I did that but I assume that if I disable that rule all should be OK or do I have to disable some feature on the box too?

you only need to delete/disable the rule on your router settings mate and that should do it

Cheers mate thanks. I have disabled the rule and changed the box's IP too...making absolutely sure. I rebooted the box too. It seems to be behaving itself at the minute but will post back to confirm.
The thing is I dropped the idea of streaming over the net as the box isn't up to the job of trans-coding on the fly which made the picture unwatchable...I wonder how it was for the hacker?

UPDATE: Well, since disabling my port-forward rule a few days have gone past and all seems fine. So there we have it, some fecker was accessing my box from the internet. The worrying thing is that they must have cracked my root password as I have enabled the password prompt when accessing my box over the net.

@Elbmw: no, haven't tried that, but I solved the problem by setting a secure password to root user. Since that the issue hasn't occurred anymore
