Why do I need MakeFile and other questions?

Hi, I am a new VU+Duo2 owner very soon and I prepare all the bits and pieces I need to get going once the box arrived. I had a ClarkTech 5100HD C before but thought to jump into the Enigma2 world with this really highly praised VU+Duo2.
I downloaded the latest BH2.1.0.1
  1. I am not quite sure why I need the MAKEFILE ?? What is that for?
  2. Do I also need the latest version of the bootloader ??
Do I need anything else for Starters??

Thanks for the Help!

Just opened it and it's from 2011.
Just download the latest version of Black Hole, 2.1.1, for the VU+ Duo2 and load that on your receiver.
Read the guides, on this forum, and check all the plugins, and addons, that you might want to use.

have you got your VU+ Duo2 yet?

I am still waiting for the parcel.....
I bought it in HM-SAT and it is on the way. If I am lucky I may get it before the weekend.

Got my VU+Duo2 today....
A really well manufactured piece of kit. It is so neat inside.
It looks like I will have a lot of fun with it.
I bought it with a DVB-S2 and a DVB-T2 tuner.
It is a pity that MHEG5 is not supported on the DVB-T2 tuner, but I will get over it.
Will let you know how I am getting on with it.

What is MHEG ?
MHEG is an abbreviation for the Multimedia and Hypermedia Experts Group. This is another group of specialists, eminent in their field which has been set up by ISO, the International Standards Organisation. This group was set the task of creating a standard method of storage, exchange and display of multimedia presentations. MHEG version 5 is the current work item for the group, and this was created in November 1994. It has been a DIS (Draft International Standard) since December 1995, and is due to be promoted to full international standard in July 1996. Its basic goals are:

  • To provide a simple but useful, easy to implement framework for multimedia applications using the minimum system resources.
  • To define a digital final form for presentations, which may be used for exchange of the presentations between different machines no matter what make or platform.
  • To provide extensibility i.e. the system should be expandable and customisable with additional application specific code, though this may make the presentation platform dependent.

The Irish implemenation

Simple said it replaces TELETEXT.
I hope this explains it !!!

Yes, I did that as soon as I discovered this. No answer so far, but maybe they have to think hard about this. I know that here in Ireland receiver which do not come with a "Saorview" certificate (like the FreeView in GB) have little chance here to get on the market.

Got my box last Friday and need at least another couple of weeks to discover everything ....
Set up with my motorized dish was a piece of cake. However, the Satellites on the far west (30.0°W HispaSat ) are not as visible like on my ClarkeTech box. I have to investigate on this front.

For some reason the LIMIT was set on the POSITIONER. After removing the limit the satellite was visible.

In a way this POSITIONER just sets the limit but one does not really know is this WEST-Limit or EAST-Limit. I think it should be under a different tab because it is for USALS and Manual Sat setting equally important.
