XBMC/KODI

Hi Guys,
I updated my friends Vu+ Solo SE last Saturday to BH 2.1.6 and he asked me how to use XBMC when we noticed it in the plugins, as he had heard good things about it.

I did not have time to add more repositories but told him I would sort it out next Saturday for him but when I enabled one of the included addons that was in the inclusive ones I noticed that it was not working very well.
Does it need a USB flash drive or USB external hard drive to enable it to buffer the streaming and if so does it need to be in FAT 32 or NTFS or should I format it using the box so that it does it in EXT ?
He does not record anything usually so just needs whatever it needs to stream smoothly, if it does need something what size would you suggest as a minimum of a USB flash drive is OK to use.

Also how do I update it from XBMC to KODI as the message was scrolling across saying a version of KODI was available.

Thanks for any help or advice you can give me

:thanks:

Morning. In first launch of XBMC it is essential to have either a Hard drive or a usb stick mounted on media/hd to prevent the flash memory from filling up.To be sure that Xbmc is not filling your flash, after the first Xbmc launch check your filesystem. If you have the folder .Xbmc in the root dir "/.Xbmc" you have to copy it on /media/hdd and then delete from the root.I personally use a 500gb hard drive for all my stuff but a usb stick formatted using the box would suffice.(4gb kingstons never let me down!).And lastly you can't update from XBMC to Kodi. This is the program installed in the image for now.

Excellent, that is just what I needed to know.
I see that BH 2.1.7 is out now so I will do a factory rese and then upload it upload it via a USB stick so hopefully that will clear the old XBMC folder and then when I is all back up and running I will sort out the XBMC.

Thanks a lot for that Robocop

:thanks:

Reading what " Robocop 1967" is recommended. So is "essential to have either hard drive or usb stick installed to run smooth the Kodi/XMBC with some addons to watch movies (repositories) on Vu+solo HD SE???
or is simple Optional to run better.
I never heard before it?
where I can see the guide to install or just to follow these comments is fine?
Somebody from Staff support
thanks

Indeed, this it was warned by @Shiro, from far i remember regarding Blackhole 2.14 XBMC Beta1. --> See the link to this warning on the launch of that image --> http://www.vuplus-community.net/board/threads/black-hole-xbmc-beta-01.20465/

Of course this is not the lastest image running XBMC

You can use the news " Blackhole 2.1.7 or Open Blackhole 0.1 ".
In any case the procedure it´s the same for both images.

To fix my problem:
I need to follow what robocop & Shiro recommended: (Hard drive or a usb stick mounted on media/hd to prevent the full flash memory) ..
Just transfer my Current Kodi (with repositories) to Usb stick and then delete the Kodi file into my receiver.."or" I need start over again: boot my image==>>transfer kodi to media/hd==>>and then install all repositories(addons with movies)
Really I hope to do the more easy/quickly way
thanks ins advance

I found my XBMC file (yellow carpet) on usr/Lib/Xbmc.
I have transfered the yellow carpet to media/usb (using USB stick)
I deleted XBMC on root (yellow carpet)
reboot my receiver. I am going to plugins/ XBMC and Nothing is showing..
How I can run the XBMC plugin from my USB stick??.

The Instructions said: "/.Xbmc" you have to copy it on /media/hdd
I am not seeing .Xbmc just Xbmc .. is the same file?
I am not seeing media/hdd just media/usb, upnp .. is the same place?
* Using Filezilla , flash Open black hole image (open pli 4.0 boot)
**********************************************************
after delete the XBMC from root i have this information:
Storage size used available % used
file system
Flash 194.8 M 182.1 M 12.7 K 93%
Seems still almost full the flash I dont know why?
I dont have too much stuff uploaded on my receiver

Did you let your box initialise and mount your USB stick ?
I formatted mine in my PC as FAT 32 first so that it would do it then selected EXT4 when the options came up.

1. You must leave files ... where it must be!
2. The problem is not the files that are on /usr/lib/xbmc
3. Regarding what @Shiro told on the launching of Blackhole 2.1.4. XBMC Beta 1 --> on the first running you must have an media formatted and mounted as:

/media/hdd

If you have this media created --> the /.xbmc --> it will be created there!

Why you don´t see it when running filezilla --> you need on filezilla to aply to show " hidden files ".

Screen_Filezilla.png

Even so, when running it, i s possible to have 93 or 94% of system memory usage!

How I can do:
the first running you must have an media formatted and mounted as:
/media/hdd

I have exactly the same installation and I have followed this instructions to do my Multiboot (using the same USB stick capacity 16 GB ...partitioned the same 8000/8000)
http://www.vuplus-community.net/board/threads/how-to-use-open-multiboot-on-open-black-hole.23270/
Can I do something like that to create: / media/hdd ???
Multiboot instructions said:
1 USB Pen Drive ( Must be formatted as EXT4 and mapped as /media/usb )

I have another question: Could I to put my /.xbmc file on my current Usb stick used for my Multiboot "or" I need to put another USB Stick (second USB slot) to transfer my XBMC

After all I started again. I flashed my receiver with the last Open black Hole image and I have installedarrow-10x10.png the open multiboot again.. I formatted my Usb stick and Now I have 2 partitions One to use for Multiboot (media/usb) and the second to use to transfer my XBMC (media/hdd). I have followed the instructions on post#15 but still
I am not seeing "/.XBMC".. See the pictures
any help.. Thanks

Bingo!!!
On next day I turn on my receiver and check on Filezilla the media/hdd file and YES!! the ".Xbmc" is there.
As Nunigaia said on post#15 :If you have this media created --> the /.xbmc --> it will be created there!
I did not tranfer anything !!! after all my process to start again
I dont know why the .xbmc did not appear when I installed everything..Probably reboot my filezilla, probably reboot my receiver.. I dont know???.. Now is there!!!
So I am confirming that we can to have one USB stick partitioned (2) . one media/Usb (for multiboot) and one media/hdd (for Xbmc) and works very well..

My receiver flash used= 63%
thanks everyone:thanks:
