Hi
Are you sure for compatibility this driver with device on rt2870 chip?
It's strange for me. I compile different drivers for rt2870 & rt3070 for 2.6.18-7.4 kernel.
I know both drivers use dirver name rt2870 but ralink release different driver fot this chips.
I have good report on russian forum for work DWA-160 in 5GHz mode with rt2870 driver version 2..4.0.1 on VU+Duo.
But for setting up rt2870 with driver 2.4.0.1 from GUI needs patch not only for WirelessLan plugin. My patch rev 0.2 patching NetworkSetup.py too.
I have asus dongle on rt2870 but I can try compatibility with driver 3070 only in week(now I'm on vacation)

Sorry for my bad English

My adapter (DWA-140) works with this driver and is listed as RT2870 chipset.
The list is not exaustive and is taken around the web.
I've been seen your patch against NetworkSetup.py but I've not tested it at this time and I hope to make some tests in this weekend.

There are some busy days at work for me.

Good vacations :)

Silly me, sorry for filling up this thread with mistakes. I will now install latest image correctly. Then I will try to connect to my wireless router netgear 3700. Anyone care to list on correct order the menus I shall open and what to fill in/leave blank/choose yes/no?

ok. Downloaded 1.4.4 to usb, plugged in and I now have black hole experimental 2011-01-14. I assume thats latest version with support for RT3070. On amazon.com I bought me a usb adapter with RT3070 : http://www.amazon.com/technology-Wi...5AYC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1297330846&sr=8-5

This is plugged in. Now what do I do further?

The assurance of good working should be verified only with the device connected to the box but if the device use the chipset RT3070 should work now with VuPlus boxes.
I have a DWA140 (Dlink) and works very good and is a 150Mbit N-class device.

The correct steps are:
- shutdown the box
- connect the wifi dongle
- power on the box
- go to Menu->Settings->System->Network
- if "Wireless lan connection" appear you can configure it according to your wifi home network (IP, DNS, security and passphrase).

did it:) I can confirm that the el cheapo usb adapter from amazon, works. HD videos from youtube st0ps after a few minutes, but I doubt it has anything with the adapter. Now I need to find the best EPGs.

Could you please post the output of the following command?

Code:
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices

I need the USB device ids of your WiFi devices :)

sure. How do I launch the command? Have not found any C:> yet...

The commando exposed above in my post should be launched into a telnet session on the box:

- connect via telnet at your box (using telnet utility, putty or other tool to make telnet sessions)
- launch the commando
- report here the output

After several hours searching the menus in the box, including new image 1.4.5 etc etc. How do I launch a command like that ? This I have found: BLUE-BLUE-telnet panel-OK = running.

You must use a PC to connect to your box via telnet. Via menu you cannot issue the command I've reported.

Using putty, choosing telnet connecting to 192.168.1.2 port 22 I get a prompt asking for password :-(

at least I'm trying, and I'm looking at BM750 login:

The telnet port is 23.

Try this driver and may be patch

I have success report about using this driver & patch on previous version.

I recomend uninstall rt3070 before install rt2870

Unfortunately I don't have VU+ and can't test patch on 1.4.5. When I sight BH modify WirelessLan plugin, but I don't know about modifying NetworkSetup.py

I think you can don't install patch, but if you install driver only you must execute
ifconfig wlan0 up
before run networkwizard from menu.

Sorry for my bad English

At the moment your patch to NetworkSetup.py is not included into BH 1.4.5 but will be inserted in the next image as a new RT3070 driver who cover more chipsets and devices.

NetworkSetup.py patch need only for new driver rt2870 and rt3572. May be for new version rt3070 too but I didn't get stable work from new version.

Driver rt3070 2.1.1.0 works great without this patch.

I'll try rt2870 dongle with rt3070 2.1.1.0 driver this weekend.
But I'm not sure for this solution work.
I read rt3070 dongles work with rt2870 driver but only with addition firmware file.
