Streaming from one VU+ to another

I have now got my second VU+ Solo2 and I use it to see Swedish Canal Digital. It works very well and the picture quality is super compared to the boxes Canal Digital provide.

One of my intentions with the second VU+ was to share the tuners between them and stream channels from one to another.

I have followed the tutorial (I'm not allowed to link to it) in the How-To section to the point.

I can select the stream in the Media Player so the Client VU+ can see the stream.
But the only thing I get is a black screen, for the first few seconds I see > in the upper left corner.

I have tried with both SD and HD channels from the Stream server.

Thanks

There is a feature into BH (and Vu+ official image too) called "Remote Channel Stream Converter" or similar one: you can find it into Setup -> Service Searching -> Remote channel stream converter

With this feature you can improt your preferred services from one Vu+ box (who had tuners and dishes directly connected) to another one without dishes/tuners directly connected.

Remeber these things:
1. the slave box (without dish directly connected) MUST BE connected to the same network (wired or wireless) of the primary (or master) box who had dishes/tuners connected
2. I suggest wireless 300Mbit/s network or (best) wired network to obtain a good experience

At the end of the operation you can find channels into favourite button of the Channel List

I've tested this system personally with my Uno (who doesen't had tuners) and my Solo2 who had terrestrial and satellite dishes connected.
Both of the boxes lives in my WLAN 300Mbit/s network

With this system you don't need to use Tuner Server & DLNA seerver in the main box and, of course, the corresponding DLNA Client feature on the slave box

Thank you angelofsky1980,

Exactly what I was looking for.

Works perfectly.

It seems to lag a little with HD channels, I don't know if that is a problem between the boxes, they are on Ethernet so I expect that could handle it. At the moment we have a rainstorm here and the reception on the dish is limited on the HD channels when that happen.

Usually HD streams have a little lag in startup but during vision it's fine.
I suggest to see HD channels only when needed and see SD versions as usual for box with only WLAN/LAN connection

Thanks,

I make another bouquet with only SD channels then for the remote viewing, if I get in trouble with the HD channels I can switch to the SD.

BTW, can't you add this feature to the How-to section. It will help other users looking for the same thing as I did :)

I have some problems with this. It only works one way. On my VU+ that has British TV from Astra 28.2E I can see programs from my other box that has its dish to Thor 0.8 with Swedish Canal Digital. No problem there at all, HD channels plays perfectly. But on the box that has Thor I can't see any of the British channels. I can load the bouquete, I can select the channels in it but I only get a blank screen.

Everything is set up the same on both except one thing, the British one has a changed password. I have entered that password in the settings for the Remote Channel Stream Converter. The British one also has a entry in my firewall for external access to a special port number. Stream ports are as normal, 8001 and 8002.

Both boxes are connected to my LAN with GigaBit Ethernet.

Greatful for any advice, thanks

I got it working by changing back to port 80 in the OpenWebif and Web settings.

In the settings for the Remote channel stream converter there are settings for FTP-ports but nothing for Web-ports, apparently they do make a difference.

One more question regarding this setup.

When looking at a channel on the client machine, the info bar doesn't show anything except the name of the channel, i.e. BBC One, BBC Two and so on. It will not display any info on how long the program is or how many minutes that are left and so on like it does when I view a channel that are from the box's tuner.

Is that normal or have I missed some settings?

Thanks

I now have information, at least sometimes. I set up the EPG to also include the British TV that I have on the Remote server, and on the Client I will see info on the channels from the Server.

If I have installed Open BH image v0.1 on both Duo2 with 2 SAT Tuners and the Zero box but no SAT connected.
Where to find "Remote Channel Stream Converter" in the BH Open source code menus?
Do I need to do anything on the server box....first?
Please send me a hint r info how to get this to work. Or do I need to restore default image from VU on the Zero
and go back to Ordinary BH 2.1.6.1?
