No HDD found or HDD not initialised

Hi

I am a new member on this site as of today, and need some help with my vu duo if possible.

I had to turn my box off for a short time (about 10 mins) and since saturday 22nd it has now lost the HDD, giving me the following error when I try to use the record function 'no hdd found or hdd not initialised'.
I have tried basic reboots but to no avail. When I go into the planner, all previous recordings have vanished.

I am a bit of a newbie in terms of the technical side of the vu duo, so any help will be appreciated!

Thanks

Adam

You should give more info.
Which receiver model have you?
What kind of HDD have you connected (internal or external)?
Which image has been installed on your Vu+?

Thanks for the reply. It is a Vu Duo+2 (I think!), it is internal HDD and the image is Blue HD (looks like the Sky TV setup!)

Hope this helps, sorry if any of these answers are what you mean!!

I don't know this image.
Are you sure you are talking about an image and not a skin?

However, try to format your hdd.
Menu > Setup > System > HardDisk > Format

Yes I think you are right, I think that is the skin. How do I find out what image it is that I am using?

I have followed these steps and I dont have the option for HardDisk. It's no longer listed in the detected devices on the information section.

Okay thanks, I will look later when at home and will update you, cheers for all the help so far!

If I download this 2.1.3, how do I then install it onto my Vu Duo? Do I add it to a USB and then flash it?

I have just looked through the link you gave me for the 2.1.3 image and it is the Vu Duo I have, not the Vu Duo2 I originally quoted. Are you okay to send me the correct link if possible?! Thanks!

Has it been working, for the past 6 months?
If so you might want to remove it, from your VU+ and test it, on your PC, to see if there's a problem with the hard drive.
Are you experiencing any other problems, with the VU+ Duo?

Yeah its been fine. It has done this once or twice in the past, and when i have flashed the vu duo the hdd usually starts working again.

Daft question, but im not much of a teccy person, how do i remove it and test it on my pc?! Is there no easier option that doesnt involve removing it?

No other problems with vu duo really, it will lose the epg from time to time, but nothing major.

There is an option, in Black Hole, to run a hard drive check, but because it's not being recognized then I doubt it will work.
The hard drive is just SATA connecters, so no problem connecting it to a modern PC and running software to scan it, for errors.
Removing it, and replacing it is so easy, that anyone can do it, there are even videos, on youtube, just make sure you disconnect everything fiorst, unplug it, unscrew the satellite co-ax cable, and any USB devices attached:

This link is for the VU+ Duo 2 but it's similar, all you need is a screw driver.

Ok cheers, watched that youtube vid and does look very easy so might give it a try.

Once its disconnected, what exactly do i need to check it on my laptop? Am i just checking thats it working and formatted correctly? I just dont get why its showing in the mount manager, but not when i try to access the planner or record programmes.

Download some free hard drive checker software, this will run a thorough test, checking for bad sectors, and even if the hard drive is faulty, or about to fail.

Hi, sorry for the very late reply! Still not got round to taking out hdd as whole vu duo is working fine, and just making do with 8gb usb stick currently plugged in to record programmes when needed.

Can i just ask though, is it possible to buy say a new external 500gb hdd and just connect that to use as my option for recordings? Instead of messing about trying to repair the internal hdd i currently can no longer use?

Thanks,

Adam
