Vu Solo 2 - HW Failure after Black Hole update

Hi,

Have been using BH image for a few months, no issues. Decided to hit the 'update software' in menu. Listed 129 packages updating, all o.k, then reboot - the goes into boot cycle but stops after image on screen, with HW Failure or HW error on led display.

Have tried to reflash BH 2.1.1 and also open Vix via USB, to no avail. on BH getting HW Failure message, when trying Open VIX - HW Error.

Assuming not a genuine hardware failure as box was working fine until software update. As far as I am aware is not a clone as purchased from reputable dealer.

Please help no TV and a €400 brick!

Do you have anything connected, including an internal hard drive?
You could try removing the connections, and try re-loading Black Hole 2.1.1.
You can also try removing any co-ax connections, in case these are causing a problem.
It could be a co-incidence, that a hardware fault occurred, during this update, but I would check everything else first, including check if your PC can still contact your receiver, using the VU+ Control Centre, your FTP program, or Telnet.

Usually this happen when your box is NOT genuine.
If you try to flash 2.0.7 BH image and all works correctly, try to upgrade the image following the image version (2.0.8, 2.0.9, etc).

Thank you all above for your advice. I hope (and believe box is genuine) as was from a known reseller and paid expected price. Also flashed a number of images to it when first set up. It's been fine for the last 6 months & purely out of curiosity pressed the 'update software' button - only to find on the reboot a HW Failure seems to have appeared. I don't buy a hardware failure as too much of a coincidence.

I do have a Samsung HDD 1TB enclosed. I did try to remove that & still got the same HW failure error.

Will next try to disconnect the Coax as suggested. After that i'll see if I can FTP / Telnet. Will report back. Thank you for everyone's help so far.

Done all of the above, still to no avail. Box seems to accept flash o.k BH 2.0.7. goes through all the cycles, reboots - then briefly get this FPGA Update flash up on the LED a couple of times, then HD Failure, no HDD or anything else connected. FTP wise, getting timeout.

9 months - have contacted them, so far getting the run around. Shame my favourite piece of kit! Perhaps time to look at the new Vu single tuner out shortly.

You have a minimum of 12 months guarantee and in Europe I think we have a 24 month guarantee.
If your supplier is giving you problems contact VU+ directly, via their website.

Exactly the same issue, I removed the HDD, removed the data cable, removed the coax cables, I get HW error two seconds after the boot up...

Just to give you a bit of histroy......
One of the tuners weren't working, I send it back to the supplier, box had 2.1.1 image on it, they flashed it to VIX and then 2.1.0 and confirmed that both tuners are working fine. They also sent me a video to show both tuners working.

Received the box earlier today, connected and now getting this HW ERROR.

Any ideas please ??

Usually this kind of error is related to clone boxes.

Yeh, this is what I read on the forum. The box is bought from a reputable re-seller (shopping4sattelite) and I'm confident in box being a genuine.

I have upgraded everyone of the BH versions on this box since its release and I never had this issue in the past.

This is the summary of what I have done so far..

Tried 3 different version of BH (2.1.1, 2.1.0 and 2.0.8) and I get "HW Error".
Tried 2 different builds of VIX and I get "Booting 99" and the box halts.
Tried OpenPli and I get "HW Error".
Tried the latest VU+ O/S the one which comes with the box. When I scan channels it stops at 9% (131 channels). I tried it 3 times and its the same. When I watch one of those scanned channels the box halts after few seconds.

Try with BH 2.0.7. Next, upgrade BH one by one version (2.0.8, 2.0.9, etc).
After this process you should have a fully working box.
If your box works with 2.0.7 image and NOT work with newest image, 99% is a clone.

I can certainly try this but I have used 7/8/9/0 and 2.1.1 on this box in the past

I put 2.1.1 on the box when it was released. Box worked fine untill now.

Mine turned out to be a clone. Had 'Lorisun' on power supply, which am told indicates this. Contacted ebayer supplier, after 9 months refunded me. Simply could not recover box from this HW error message after the upgrade,

Hope now you can buy a genuine box from a reputable reseller and not from ebay ....
